The invention relates to toys of the type adapted to be propelled, usually by being drawn over a surface, and which simulate the movements and sound of a living animal [Q or bird. J
The invention provides a toy of the character aforesaid embodying amovable head, independently movable jaws, and a sound producing mechanism, all actuated by movement derived from a mechanism set in motion :fis the toy is propelled or drawn over a surace.
One of the chief features of the invention is the provision of a toy which will withstand hard usage without liability of derangement or crippling of the parts, and which embodies a small number of elements readily accessible for any desired purpose.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof, reference is to be had to the drawing hereto attached and the subjoined description in which corresponding arts are designated in the several views of t e drawing and referred to in. the
specification by like reference characters.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a vertical, central, longitudinal section of a toy illustrative of an embodiment of the invention, the head being so lowered and the dotted lines showing the head raised.
Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.

In the present instance, the construction is such as to emit a quacking sound simulating the voice of a duck. The sound producing mechanism comprises a pair ofcylinders 13, a diaphragm 14 stretched thereover, and a vibrant element 15, the latter consisting of a spring secured at one end to the body 1 and having its opposite end free to be actuated by means of the link 10. The intermediate portion of the spring 15 coacts with the diaphragm 14 to produce thedesired sound when the toy is in motion. The vibrant element 15 is adapted to be actuated in any manner b means of the link 10 and, as shown, a note 16 is formed in the link and provides a sto which coacts with the free end of the sprlng 15.
A string 17 or analogous element is attached to the body of the toy and provides convenient means for drawing thesame over a surface. As the toy is propelled the-supporting wheels 2 and 3 are rotated, and by reason of the crank connection of the link 10' with the shaft 4 of the wheels 3, said link is The movement of tion' throughout its movements by reason of the link 7. It is to be understood that the invention may b readily adapted to any object representative of an ammal or bird. It is further observed that the device embodies a small number of parts which are readily accessible at all times.
In practice, the head aid body may consist of side pieces of sheet material between which '1 elements aresecured. The link 6 constituting the neck proper may be formed with a kerf to receive the link 7 and forward portion of the link 10. . What is claimed is:
1. In a toy of the character specified, a body, a movable head, a link pivotally'connecting the head to the body, a second link 5 forming pivotal connecting means between the head and bod to maintain the head ap- F proximately parallel to a predetermined position during its various movements, means actuated by propulsion of the toy to impart a 40 vibratory movement to one of the aforementioned links to efiect a raising and a lowering of the head, a fixed jaw pro ecting from the head, a movable jaw pivoted to said head and adapted to be simultaneously actuated as the head is raised and lowered, a stop to limit the 7 opening of the movable jaw, and sto means between the movable tjiiw and one of t e links to efiect a closing of holding of the same in closed position.

A toy of the character specified, comprising a body, a hollow head, a fixed jaw projecting from the head, a movable jaw pivoted within the head, a pair of links pivoted at one end within the hollow of the head to the rear of the movable jaw, and pivoted at the opposite end to the body, one of the links being engageable with the movable jaw to effect a closing thereof and maintain it in closed position,- stop means within the head to limit the opening of the movable jaw, and actuating means operated by propulsive movement of the toy to effect a raising and lowering of the head and a simultaneous opening and closing of the jaws.
6. A toy of the character specified comprising a body, a head member pivotally connected with the body by means comprisinga movable link, which head member is provided with jaws movable in respect to each other, atleast one of which is movably mounted on and carried by the head member, the jaw last referred to being operatively associated with said link,whereby during at least a part of the movement of the link the jaw is thereby caused to move relative to the other jaw and at a time when the head member is being moved relative to the body.
7. A toy of the character specified comprising a body, a head member movable relative to the body, actuatingnieans operative by the propulsive movement of the toy for effecting the relative movement between the body and the head member, said head member having jaws at least one of which is movable relative to the head member, said toy having a link pivotally connected to the head mem-' her and to the body and which link is associated with the movable jaw so that a portion of the link which is. distant from the place where it istconnected to the head member functions during at least a part of the movement of the link to effect a movement of the jaw relative to the head member when the head member is being moved relative to the bo y.
8. A toy of the character specified comprising a body, a head member pivotally connected with the body by means comprising a movable link one portion of which link is pivotally connected to the head member and another portion of which is pivotally connected to the body, said head member having a jaw movably mounted thereupon, and in respect thereto, said jaw having operative engagement with said link whereby during at least a part of the movement of the head member relative to the body said link during the movement thereof causes a movement of the jaw relative to the head member.
9. In a toy of the character specified, the
combination of a body member, a head member movable relative to the body member, said head member having a part mounted thereon so that said part can move relative to the rest of the head member, a sound-producing mechanism carried by one of said members, and actuating means operated by propulsive movement of the toy, which actuating means comprises movable elements associated with the body member and the head member to effect relative movement between said members, said actuating means also being associated with said sound-producing mechanism and said part movably mounted on the rest of the head whereby at a time when said part is moved relative to the rest of the head the sound-producing mechanism functions to make a noise.
10. A sound-producing toy of the character specified comprising the combination with the sound-producing mechanism, of a body.
