IMPROVEMENT IN MOSQUITO-NETS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,306, dated May 9, 1876; application filed September 9, 1875.

fore constructed, which can be readily attached to bedsteads of ordinary construction, and quickly detached from .the same, and which can be conveniently folded back with its covering without detaching it from the bedstead, when desired; and it consists in a root angular frame of suitable size, adapted to be hinged, pivoted, or otherwise similarly attached to the head-board of the bed, or the standards forming partof the same, either between or outside of the two, and provided with a series of hooks for securing the canopy, the whole being capable of being turned down in a horizontal position in such a manner as to form a canopy over the sleeper, or'be elevated to a vertical position, and thrown out of the way when desired, as fully hereinafter set forth.

In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view of the invention 5 and Fig. 3 is a detached view, showing a modification of the same.

The letter A represents a bedstead of any ordinary construction, and B the head-board of the same, supported between the two upright standards 0 O. D represents a rectangular frame of any suitable size, constructed of wood, metal, or other suitable material, and adapted to be secured. by means of a rod, E, extending across the head -board, and fastened in the standards 0 G, passing through the ends of the frame D,which set loosely thereon in such manner as to allow the said frame to be dropped to a horizontal position, being held by means of a stop, F, formed, on the head-board, which engages the recesses G at the ends of the frame D for the purpose.

When the frame D is secured to the outside of the standards it is attached by means of screws H H, adapted to be secured through apertures in the ends of the same, and, when in a horizontal position, is supported by the stops l I, secured to the standards below, and in front of, the screws H H, by which the frame is attached to the same.

The letter K represents aseries of hooks set along the front edge of the frame, and

serve to secure the front part of the fabric or netting of the canopy, the rear edge being socured to the rod on which the frame is pivoted, or to a similar row of hooks, L, secured to the head-board of the bedstead.

The fabric consists of a plain piece of netting, of sufficient size to fall over the edges of the frame, and extend down to the surface of, and around the sides of, the bed, when the frame is in a horizontal position, and form a complete canopy over the occupant.

By means of my improved framea support or canopy attachment for bedsteads is formed, which, as is evident, can be readily applied to all classes of bedsteads at trifling expense and very little trouble, and can be readily detached at pleasure.

The fabric necessary to form the canopy, consistin g simply of a plain piece of netting, requires no making up, and, as only a small piece is necessary, enables the whole to be constructed much more cheaply than the canopies heretofore in use; and the whole has the additional advantage of being 'readily' folded back out of the way when not in use, which renders it less liable to accidents, and allows the bed to be conveniently reached for making up or changing the linen.
