Description

PICKER STICK CHECK Filed Dec. l, 1927 Cil Patented Bec. 24, 1929 UNET'ED STATES PATENT OFFICE PICKER-STICK CHECK Application filed Becember l, 1927.
This invention relates to a check for use in connection with the picker sticks of looms.
The check according to our invention is adapted to forni a yielding stop for the picker stick in its outward movement and to cushion said stick ant thus relieve shocks at the sur den stopping of the shuttle as it shoots through the shuttle race and comes in contact with the stick, and the main obJect is to provide a simplified, inexpensive, and generally more efficient structure.
Additional objects and advantages become apparent from a consideration of. the description following taken in conne tion with accompanying drawings illustrating an operative embodiment.
In said drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the improvement used in connection with a picker l .stick and lathe or batten, the picker stick being shown in dotted lines as at the end of its outward movement and the check in a corresponding position Figure 2 is a view of the parts of Figure 1 taken from the reverse side,
Figure 3 is a rear elevation of the cheek,
Figure l is a section taken on line 4 4; of
Figure 1, and
Figure 5 is a section taken on line 5 5 of Figure 3.
Referring specifically to the drawings, the picker stick of a` loom is shown as at a operatively associated with the usual lathe or batten I).
In carrying out our invention, an attach` ing bracket is provided as at having a depending ear at 11 and a main portion 12. Such portion 12 fits against the under surface of the hatten o. Integral with the porion 12 is an attaching lug 13 which engages against a side of the batten and is secured thereto as by a bolt or the like 14. Such fastening may also be supplemented by the passage of one or more bolts 15 through tl e Viortion 12.
A Extending transversely of the bracket and non-rotatably fixed in the ear 11 is a bolt 1G, and detachably and non-rotatably mounted on a square portion 1Gn of said bolt 16 is a thimble 15b on which is journaled a sleeve extension Serial No. 2B'?,46.
1in of a check lever 17, said lever having a stop portion 18 and a depending portion 19 provided with a laterally extending lug at 20.
A coil spring 21 surrounds the thimble and sleeve and has its terminals disposed in slots 2P and 211 of ear 11 and lever 17 respectively.
The tension of the spring 21 tends to urge forward movement of the lever 17 so that its arm 18, which is in line with the batten b will engage the bracket 12. Thus upon the rearward movement of the picker stick, the same will engage the lug 20 as the latter is in line therewith, and thus move the lever against the tension of the spring 21 to the dotted line position shown in Figure 1, thus checking outward movement of the picker stick and re lieve the shock of the sudden stopping of the shuttle as it shoots through the shuttle race and cornes in contact with said picker stick. As the picker stick moves out of engagement with the lug 20, the lever 17 is restored to normal position by the spring 21, arm 18 contacting with the bracket.
Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
Vhat is claimed is:
A check device of the class described comprising an attaching bracket having an attaching portion and an ear integral therewith and depending therefrom, a horizontal bolt rigidly fastened to the depending poi'- tion and mainly disposed under the attaching portion, a thimble non-rotatable on said bolt having an abutment at its inner end, a lever pivoted on said bolt having a sleeve integral therewith journaled on the thimble and abutting said abutment, said lever having a laterally extending lug adjacent its lower end for engagement by a picker stick, a spring surrounding said sleeve and abutment and being fastened to said ear and said lever, said spring serving to urge forward movement of and maintaining said lever adjacent its upper end in contact with the under surface of said attaching portion.
In testimony whereof we aiiix our signatures.
