My present invention has reference to a new and novel construction of tobacco pouches or containers.

Among the objects of my invention is the provision of a pouch or container of a shape or construction to permit of the lsame being readily carried in the pocket of the user without inflicting injury thereto; to provide a device for this purpose in which the tobacco contained therein is properly moistened and protected from outside air influence; to provide a device for this purpose in which the tobacco is arranged in a libre casing that is normally closed, but which has arranged at one of its ends an aluminum or like cap or closure which in itself comprises a casing and which has an opening therethrough that is normally closed by a spring iniuenced door that forms a delivery spout for the tobacco, and which door is moved to open position to properly direct tobacco from the device by a simple push mechanism whose operative end is protected by a guard member so that the same cannot be accidentally moved and also whereby the same is held from inflicting injury to the pocket of the owner.

To the attainment of the above broadly stated objects and many others which will present themselves as the nature of the invention is better understood, the improvement further resides in certain novel features of construction, combination and operative association of parts, one satisfactory embodiment of which is disclosed by the accompanying drawings. As disclosed by the drawings the body of my improvement is elliptical in cross section and has its corners and its closed end rounded. The body is indicated in the drawings by the numeral 1, and is of some suitable fibre which is of suiicient strength to prevent the buckling thereof. The fibre body 1 has one of its ends open, and this open end is closed by a member broadly indicated by the numeral 2. The member is preferably of aluminum or some other light rust-proof material which has no deteriorating eiiects upon tobacco which may contact therewith. The member 2 is really in the nature of a cap or casing and is, of course, of a shape to correspond with the cross sectional contour of the body 1. The side flanges 3 oit the casing providing the face member 2 are formed with inwardly extending spring ears 4, the said ears being indented, as at 5, to form inwardly projecting lugs which may be received in depressions in the sides of the body 1. If desired, the inner face of the casing 2 may be of fibre material, similar to that from which the body 1 is constructed. Thisy inner face is for distinction indicated in the drawings by the numeral 6. The outer plate or face of the casing is also for distinction indicated by the numeral 7, and there is an elliptical opening f adjacent to the bottom of the casing 2 that is surrounded by a flange or partition 8 connected to the inner and outer parts 6 and 7 of the said casing. The spring ears or lugs 4 may be sprung away from the sides of the body 1 to uncover the open end of the said body and to permit of the insertion of tobacco thereinto. Also when the casing is thus removed there is arranged in the lower rounded end of the body an apertured tub'e or plate 9 which has its sides received in longitudinal grooves or depressions on the inner face of the said body. The member 9 is designed to contain therein sponge or like absorbing elements 10 which are designed to be moistened so that the improvement is really in the nature of a humidor.

The opening through the front or casing 2 surrounded by the flange 8 is designed to be closed by an elliptical door 11. The door has its body portion struck at a curvature and is provided with side flanges 12. The door is thus of a shape to correspond to the bowl of a spoon. The elevated lower or widened end of the door is formed with spaced extensions 13 that have their ends rounded upon themselves, as at 14, and passing through these eyes or rounded ends 14 there is a shaft 15 thatis suitably journaled through bearings 16 carried by the casing 2. Vound around the shaft 15 there is a spring 18. n

One end of this spring is fixed to one of the parts 13 of the door, the second end being fixed in the casing. The spring influences the door to closed position. v 'y On the ends of thel shaft 15 there are fixed pinions 19 that are engaged by4 racks or teeth 2O on thearms 21 of ayyoke member. The yoke is formed on one end of a push rod 22, and the said rod is guided through suitable bearings 23 on the inner face of the outer plate 7Mof the face member or casing 2 of the improvement. The push rod extends through the top of the casing and is formed on its outer` end with a laterally extending and preferably roughened head portion 24. The plate 7 of the part 2 of the improvement is formed with an extension 25 which is substantially U-shaped incross section and serves as a guide for the push rod and the upper portion of this extension 25 is curved or rounded, as at 26, over the head 24 to provide a protector for the head and likewise a proj tector for the pocket of the user in which the device is deposited when not required for use. i

The door friction ally engages with the wall 8 provided at the tobacco outlet opening of the improvement so that air cannot enter the body 1. A downward push upon the head of the push rod 22 will cause the teeth 2O ony the arms21 of the yoke portion of said push rod to swing the door 'to open position. The tobacco will flow through the door and will be properly directed into .the pipe of the user as disclosed by Figure 2 of the drawings. In order that the tobacco thus flowing from the improvement will be properly directed and held from contact with the shaft 15 and the elements associated therewith, I arrange in the lower portion of the elliptical flange 8 a transversely arranged lip .27.

The construction and advantages of my improvements will, it is thought, be understood and appreciated by those skilled in the art t0 which the invention relates, but obviously I do not wish to be restricted to the precise details herein set forth and, therefore, hold myself entitled to make such changes therefrom as fairly fall within the scope of what I claim. n

Having described the invention, I claim:

A cap or closure for the open face of a tobacco container which has a humidor therein, comprising a member in the nature of a casing having its opposite sides formed with spring ears which are inwardly indented for gripping engagement with the sides of the tobacco container, said casing including an inner and an outer wall and having an opening therethrough and a flange surrounding the opening, a spring influenced shaft journaled in bearings in the casing below the lower wall of the flange, and having toothed wheels on the ends thereof, a concaved door on the outer face of the casing for closing the opening therethrough, and having spaced angle extensions whose ends are rounded upon themselves and through which the shaft is received and one end of the spring bearing against one of said extensions for normally holding the door closed, an arched member having a straight extension which is guided through the casing, and the spaced arms of the arched member having teeth to engage with the toothed wheels on the shaft, and said arms being guided through the bottom of the casing, the central arm of the arched member extending through the top of the casing and merging into an offset linger grip and said top of the casing having a flanged extension which affords a guard for the said finger grip.
