This' invention relates to a combined match package holder and ash receptacle.

An object of this invention is to provide a receptacle which is formed of a pair of pivotally connected together members, one of the mem-.

bers being formed to receive a match: package,

and the other member being formed to receive and retain ashes and cigarette stubs.

Another object of this invention is to provide a receptacle of this kind which can be made in a size small enough to conveniently carry in a pocket.

A further object of this invention is'to provide a receptacle in which the ash receiver is formed with an ash chamber to prevent spilling of the ashes and the receiver being provided with a closure to provide ready access to the ash chamher, the closure sealing the chamber so that the receptacle may be placed in a pocket with ashes disposed in the chamber.

A further object of this invention is to provide a receptacle which may be made out of metal, plastics, wood, or other suitable material.

Referring to the drawing the numerals l0 and H designate generally a match package holder and an ash receiver respectively. The holder 10' and the receiver II are hingedly connected together as will be hereinafter described, and are adapted to be disposed with their inner faces confronting each other, as shown in Figure 1,

so that the appliance or receptacle may be readi-, 1y inserted in a pocket.

The holder l0 comprisesa bottom wall l2, opposite, side walls l3, an outer wall It and an inner wall Hi. The opposite side walls l3 are of tapering construction with their larger ends outermost and a conventional match package [6 is adapted to be inserted within the holder ID. The holder [0 also includes a top Wall ll which is formed integral with the rear wall and,

extends forwardly therefrom. The top wall H is provided with an opening or window I8 through which the abrasive portion I9 carried by the match package I6 is adapted tobe exposed.

In practice the cover of the match package It is preferably out 01f, as at 20, so that the matches 2| may be readily removed without the necessity of opening the usual cover formed as a part of thematch package. A closure 22 is hingedly secured, as at 23, to the forward end of the top wall Hand is formed in its upper side with a fingernail recess 24 in order to permit, the closure 22 to be readily swung upwardly to an open position.

A flange or shoulder 25 is secured to or formed integrally with the forward or front wall M on the inner side thereof, and provides a seat against which the closure 22 is adapted to engage when in closed position. The holder ill, at the rear thereof, is formed with a pair of rearwardly extending ears 26 on' the opposite sides thereof, and a pair of complementary ears 2'! are carried by the receiver l I. A pintle 28 is adapted to engage through the overlapping ears'26 and 21 so as to hingedly connect the holder [0 to the receiverl l.

The receiver ll comprises a bottom wall 29, a front wall 30, opposite side walls 3| and a rear wall 32. The opposite side walls 3| are of tapering construction with the larger ends thereof outermost and a top wall 33 extends forwardly from the upper edge of the rear wall 32. The top wall 32 forms, with the bottom wall 29, an ash receiving chamber 34 at the rear of the receiver II, which opens forwardly into a larger chamber 35. The closure 36 has formed longitudinally thereof, and at one side of the transverse center, a longitudinally extending detent 39. The detent 39 has the convex side thereof outermost and the concave side 40 forms a rest for a cigarette when the closure 36 is in an open position,' as shown in dotted lines in Figure 3.

With a device of this kind the smoker is provided with a match holder for holding conventional match packages, and is also provided with a small-lash receiver 50* that where no ash trays orithe likeiax'eiprovided' theiashesmay be: dropped into thereceiver H, and subsequently disposed offin the usual manner.
