winnow'scror.- r i This invention relates-to window stops and in particular toone of an adjustablenature. A particular object of my; invention is to providea windowstop which may be adjusted to permitathe ,windowato be opened fully ormay be moved to a position to limit the opening movement of either theupper or lower sash..
A still further obj eetof my invention is to provide an adjustable window stop which may be attached to the upper sash and which has a portion thereof arranged to overlie the lower. sash when the sameisreleased, there being provided inconnection therewith a-movablei catch member which is arranged toretain the movable portionof the stop out of way of the lower sash when it is desired to tully open either'the lower or upper sash.
-A still further object of the invention is to provide a -simplified;construction in adjustable window stops which will prevent an intruder from operating the same from outside the window with a stick in order to open the window to gain admission to the room.
In devices of this nature, the construction has permitted an intruder to operate the same with a stick so that they will automatically remain closed when once closed and consequently permit the sashes to be moved relatively to each other so that admission can be gained through the window. In my in vention, I have provided a pivotal catch member and two operations are necessary in c1os ing the stop so that unlimited movement of the sashes relatively to each other can be accomplished.
To enable others skilled in the art to fully comprehend the underlying features of my invention that they may embody the same in the various modifications in structure and relation contemplated, a drawing depicting a preferred form has been annexed as a part of this disclosure and in such drawings, similar reference characters denote corres mnding parts throughout all the views, of which,

This inturned edge 18 provides a bearing foot against which the lower sash strikes and is limited in its upward movement.
The temper of the spring 11 which is positioned about the hinge pin 8 intermediate the cars 7 formed on the base plate 5, is such that the latching plate or wing 10 is retained at substantially right angles to the base plate 5 and in position to effectively prevent the lower sash from being moved relatively to the up per sash except within the limits permitted for ventilation.
In order that the wing or latching plate 10 may be moved to position and retained to permit normal operation of the upper and lower sashes relatively to each other, I have pivoted as at 19 adjacent the upper edge of the base plate 5, the catch 20 which is provided with an extended portion 21 and an oi erturned part 22. This overturned part 22 is arranged to encompass the upper edge of the latching plate 10 when the same is forced closed against the action of the spring 11 for position adjacent the base plate 5.
It is quite evident that an intruder manipulating with a stick from the exterior of the window could not possibly close the latching plate 10 and then throw the catch 20 down to )osition to retain the same in its closed positinn because the moment the plate 10 was refreased in cider w operate the lateh 20, it
