' H. C. MORRIS METHOD OF ASSEMBLING DOORS Filed June 28, 1927 Patented June 5, 19 28.
UNITED STATES HUBERT C. MORRIS, OF-ALBANY,'Y OREGON.
METHOD or AssEMBLIne Doonsapplication filed June 28,
invention relatesto a method of as sembling doors, particularly garage doors that have a panel, occupying a large portion of such door, composed offstrips held together by cross braces. 7
My invention has for its purpose, the
tures of application and methodv of pro-.
cedure, the essential elements of which are set forth in the appended claims, and a preferred formof embodimentof which is hereinafter shown with reference to the draw-Q this specification; l I
In the drawings I Fig. 1 is a door in'front elevation of the. abkind upon which my method may be successfully used in the. manufacture of the Fig. 2 is a plan elevation of an assembly frame showing a panel partially assembled thereon. I
Fig. 3 is a plan elevation of an assembly frame showing a panel completely assembled thereon. I
Fig. 4 is an end elevation partially broken away illustrating the frame and the panel assembly thereon. I I
Fig. 5 is a front elevation of the completed panel.
Fig. 6 is a diagrammatical"illustration of 40 the assembly of the panel between the rails and stiles of a door.
Like reference characters refer to like parts throughout the several views.
Fig. 1 illustrates a door to which my method of making doors is particularly applicable, wherein 1, 2 and 3 respectively designate the top rail, center or look rail and the bottom rail, and 4: refers to the stiles thereof. Between the lock rail 2 and the top rail 1 are secured byusual tongue and groove assembly the top panels 5 and the center panels 6 which may be of any of the usual designs. Between the lock rail 2 and the lower or bottom rail 3 is the panel 7 which is composed of the individual tongue and groove units or strips 8 secured tos which accompany and form apart of construction, are inserted in 1927. Serial No. 202,126.
gethe'r and'braced 'bythe cross braces or diagonalsti'tfening members 9. The outer edges, as is usual in this character of door grooves provided in the stiles and rails.
of applicant, it has been the method to as seinble the units 8 one ata time between the bottom and lock rails, one of the stiles being left unmounted during the assembly and has proven to be a tedious and expensive method of assembly.
, PATENT OFFICE.
Heretofore, according 'to the knowledge" In the method disclosed herewith, the
The brackets 12 are relatively positioned upon the assembly top to define the size of panel to be constructed. The units 8 are then assembled therebetween as shown in Fig. 2, and fit snugly within the area outlined by the brackets 12. After the strips 8 have been assembled upon the table within the angle of each of the brackets 12, and
resting upon the strips 8 are placed the angular spacing members 14;. After the spacing members have been placed in position the diagonal brace or sifi'ening members are placed upon the units 8 and secured thereto. The diagonal brace members extend from one spacing member 'to another spaced from the outer edges of the panel by means of the spacing members 14, thereby allowing the units 8 to project beyond the cross bars for'insertion within the grooves within the stiles, lock or bottom rails, as the diagonally opposite, and havetheir ends structing the ddtr' vvith the preassembled panel is as follows: One stile 4 is placed up right upon its outer edge as shown in Fig. 6;
The bottom rail 3 is mounted thereto, the
