CONTAINER AND MOUNTING THEREFOR Filed July 1926 Patented Jan. 24, 1928.
UNITED STATES FATENT OFFICE.
NORTON H. VAN SICKLEN, JR. OF GENEVA, ILLINOIS, ASsl'G'NoR TO THE ELGIN CLOCK GOMPANYQOF ELGIN, ILLINOIS,
A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE.
CONTAINER AND MOUNTING THEREFOR.
Application filed July 29, 1926. Serial No. 125,683.
This invention relates to containers and mountings therefor, and has for an object to provide a device of this character which may be readily mounted upon a supporting body and detached therefrom with little or no dit ficulty. Another object consists in the provislon of a receptacle or container covered with suitable material, such as leather or the like, and providing in combination therewith a. combined attachment or mounting plate by which the device maybe supported in its ultimate location and which also serves to secure the edges of the covering against displacement.
Another object consists in the provision of a new and improved attachment plate for receptacles or the like, which may be readily assembled with such receptacles and utilized for a convenient and satisfactory mounting attachment for the receptacles.
These and other objects will be more fully set forth and described in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawing in which- Fig. 1 is a perspective of a container or receptacle.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section therethrough, showing the mounting plate attached thereto.
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the combination shown in Fig. 2.
10 indicates generally a receptacle or con tainer, in the form shown being a container for vanity case/ equipment or smokers set as applied to automobiles for example. The container is formed with the upwardly projecting rear wall 10, from which projects rearwar'dly about the edge of the container the flange 10 The rear wall is depressed or sunken within the flange 1O as indicated by 10 for example in Fig. 2;
Covering the exposed portions of the outer surface of the container 10 is a covering 11 oii fine leather or the like. which is folded as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. This plate isprovided with apertures 15, which align with the threaded apertures of bosses 103.50
that securing screws or the like (not shown) may be inserted and screwed home to secure thc plate 15 tightly against the rear wall 10*,
its dimensions being such that it will press firmly against the leather on the flange 10 and secure the same against displacement or coming off the body of the receptacle.
A rectangular or panel portion 15 on the plate 15 is depressed tobring the attached portion oil the back plate into contact with the bosses 10 after assembly.
. Portions 15 of the panel portion 15 are raised and provided with the slots 15 having an entrance portion 15 of larger diameter. Heads of supporting screws or the like may be freely inserted in the entrance portions 15 and the plate and receptacle thereafter permitted to slide down on the shank of such screws for mounting of the reoeptacle, the reduced portion of the slots 15 then n'cventing accidental movement of the plate and receptacle from the supporting screws, as will be readily understood. By raising portions 15 ample room for the accommodation of the heads of the supporting screws will beafl'orded.
The plate 15 is further provided with the depending lugs or cars 15, which are apertured as indicated and which depend below the container proper so that additional fastening screws may be inserted therethrough utter the device is placed in its desired location.
The container 15 is cut out as indicated by numeral 15 to permit passage of wires or the like where electrical accessories are carried or supported by the receptacle.
With a device such as described assembly oi the plates with the receptacles may be readily and quickly made and the covering of leather will be securely held against detaclunent from the receptacle by the plate which at the same time provides a ready and satisfactory means for attachment to a mounting as described above.
It will be apparent that other devices than the receptacle illustrated may be combined with a supporting plate of this character, and I do not wish to be restricted to the form of my invention shown and described, except as defined in the appended claims.
hat I claim is:
1. A. receptacle, said receptacle having a raised flange about its rear wall, a covering Mange. i r
for said aeceptac le laid over said flange, a
member secured to said rear "Wall and coacting therewith to secure said covering at said 2. A receptacle said receptacle having a raised flange about its rear Wall, a covering for said receptacle laid OM61 said flange, a plate secured to said rear wall and coacting therewith to secure sa id covering at aaid flange, and means to secure said plate to said rear wall.
3. Afrecep'tacl'e having a raised flange abcut its -1'ea1'- va'll, -a plate secured to said rear Wall and 'iressecl against said flange, said plate being spaced l rnm saidfi'ear wall. 4:. 2k receptacle; said receptacle having a raised'fiange about its rear WalLCbOsSes pro jecting from said rear wall Within said,
