1 VANITY CASE.
Application filed May 24, 1923. Serial No. 841,223.
and useful Improvements in Vanity Gases,
of which the following is a specification.
My said invention relates to a vanity case and it is an object of the same to provide a device of the character described which shall be ornamental in appearance and convenient in use.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts,
Figure 1 is a perspective of my device in one position,
Figure 2, a perspective of the same in another position, 1
Figure 3, a vertical section through the case with the parts approaching closed position.
Figures 4, 5 and 6,details of parts shown in Figure 3, and
Figure 7 a modified form of one of said parts. I
In the drawings reference character 10 indicates the bottom box of the case in which is located a powder compact 11 which, if preferred, may be secured to a slip of glass. A cover 12 is connected to the box by a hinge 13 and a central support is connected to the box and the lid by the same hinge. The central member consists of a ring 15 of sheet metal having an inwardly directed flange 16 for supporting a mirror 17.
At the opposite side of the mirror a metallic disk 18 rests on the same, this disk being cut away at opposite sides for convenient assembly and being bent upwardly fromthe middle where it bears on the mirror. A flat ring 19 has a flange 2O bearingon the disk 18 and an outer flange21 cut away down to the flat part of the ring at points opposite the-hinge and a det-entpresently to be described, a small notch being also cut in the ring at 22. Adjacent-the hinge and the detent or at any other convenient places the flange 21 may be provided with spaced pairs of projections 23 and 24 which extend down to and rest on the around the rest of its circumference there is an outwardly extending ridge 25.
Punched out points 26 arefprovidedon the projections 23 for engaging in the interior groove corresponding to the annular ridge for holding the parts in place. It, will be seen that the flange 20' serve's to bend the disk 18 down toward the mirror thereby producing a spring action which holds the mirror in place. Obviously the disk could be turned upside down and similarresults would be obtained. The flange 20 also coop-.
crates with disk 18 to providea compartment for a rouge compact underneath the cover 12.
Atv the front side of the case the snpport 15 is provided with an'opening extending through the ridge 25 and with spaced openings above'and below the rid e. Afdete'nt shown in Figure 6 has a projection 28 extending through the opening in the ridge and forminga hand operating member,
The pair of projections 29and 30 extend through the openings at opposite sides of the ridge and are adapted-to engage re-v spectively with an edge of the cover under a punched-out overhanging projection 31 and a similar structure at 32 on t-he box. The resilient projecting wings 3301f the detent bear against the outer sides of projections 24 to hold the detent in its outermost position whereby the box and the lid are locked in closed position relatively to the support 15 and toeach other. When itsis desired to release either member the detent is forced inwardly by pressing on the projection 28 and either the box or the lid may then be opened. As will be seen from Figure 1 when the lower compartment is opened the mirror will be in convenientposition for'use while the rouge compact will be concealed.
the ring 19 is provided with a pairof resilient arms 34 bent inwardly from the flanges 21 and adapted to bear against the rear face of the mirror 17 thus replacing the disk 18 in use anddoing away \withthe necessity of this additional part.
It will be obvious'to those skilled in the art that other modifications may be made in the structure of my vdevice Without departing from the spirit of theinvention and th'ereforel do not limit myself to what is shown in the drawings and described inthe specification but only as indicated in the appended claims. I
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
