This invention relates to door catches of the sort having a lever pivoted between its ends, one end of the lever being in the path of the door to check-the closing movement thereof and thereby prevent the door from slamming noisily or violently, and, the other end of the lever being adapted to engage the outside of the door to complete its closing movement and to hold the door in tightly closed position, a spring being associated with the lever so as to throw the same to its extreme positions. Door catches of this sort are used in connection with spring closed doors such as, for instance, screen doors.
The aim of the invention is to provide a door catch of this sort having various fea tures of novelty and advantage, and which is particularly characterized by its neat and pleasing appearance, by its simplicity in construction and economy in manufacture, and by its durability and effectiveness in opera tion. 7
Other objects will be in part obvious and in part pointed out more in detail hereinafter.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combination of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter set forth, and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the'appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, wherein I have shown, for illustrative purposes, one

Fig. 5 is an elevational view of the member to which the spring is anchored.
Referring to the drawings in detail, A denotes a casing or support; and B, a lever pivoted between its endsto the support and having at one end a roller C which the door is adapted to strike as it swings into closing position, as shown most clearlyv in Fig. 3. The other end of the lever carries aroller D adapted to engage the outside of the door to complete the closing movement thereof and hold the sametightly closed. E is a spring connected at one end to the lever B and at the other end to a bracket or anchor F and so arranged as to snap the lever to each of its extreme positions. The letter G designates rivets which connect the bracket F to the support A. In Fig. 1, the support A is shown as being secured to a door casing H adjacent the swinging or free edge of the door, the latter being designated by the letter I.
The support A is preferably formed of sheet metal by stamping out a blank of the desired configuration and then bending and drawing the blank to the shape shown. The support is generally U-shaped in section and has generaly parallel side walls 10 and a connecting or end ,wall 11, the lat ter being longitudinally curved to corre spond. generally to the longitudinal curva ture of the lever B. The support may be secured to the door casing in any suitable manner and, to this end, it may be provided with flanges 12 aperturcd to accommodate securing screws 18. The forward or outer end of the support is provided with alined apertured bossesfl l which, together with complementary bosses 15 on the bracket F, constitute bearings for the lever B. The bosses l4 and 15 are preferably formed by punching holes inthe metal and bending the metal about the holes-outwardly or inward- 1y, as the case may be. The openings 16 in the bosses 14, and the corresponding open ings 17 in the bosses 15, are non-circular. They are, preferably, square, as shown, and the rivets are likewise square so to prevent relative movement between the bracket F and the support. The bracket F, which is also, by preference, constructed of sheet metal stamped and bent to proper shape, is in the form of a U or yoke, and the connecting portion 20 of the yoke is provided with an apertured tongue 21 to which is at tached one end of the spring E.
The lever B, which is, preferably, formed of a single piece of sheet metal, is longitudinally curved so that it is somewhat crescent shaped. As breviously stated, the longitudh nal curvature of the lever corresponds generally to the curvature of the end wall 11 of the support so that the device presents a neat and pleasing design. The lever B is also transversely curved, that is to say, it is gcnerallyli or channel shaped in cross section. In a device of the character described, a support provided with sidewalls having alined non-circular apertures, a U-shaped member having its ends provided with noncircular openings registering with those in the said side walls, rivets fitting in said noncircular openings and securing said member against movement, a sheet metal lever having side walls journalled between the side walls of said support and the ends of said member, and spring connected at one end to said lever and at its other end to said member.

In a device of the character described, a support provided with side walls, a member positioned between said walls and having, adjacent its ends, cylindrical bearings, rivets extending through said side walls and said bearings, a sheet metal lever channel shaped in cross section and having its side walls journa lled,'on said bearings, and a spring between said member and lever.

In a device of the character described, a support provided with side walls, a lever having side walls fitting within the side walls of said support, a member carried by and fixed against movement relative to said first side walls and extending therebet-ween, said side walls oi said lever having bearings on said member, and said member hav ing its central portion offset from said bearends to said offset and lever.
