As is well known in textile pr inting, the
design to be applied to the fabric is an inherent part of the printing roll, and to produce the same the roll, which is generally in the form of hollow copper body, al though in some instances it is inthe form of a solid copper cylindrical body, having the periphery treated, partially thereof engraved, or otherwise thereof or completely throughout to provide the design which is to be printed on the fabric. gAfter the printing operation, the roll is generally discarded, but in some instances smoothed off or reduced in diameter to enable the engraving or treating the periphery thereof to prode a new design for printing,
and which entails considerable time, expense, labor and loss. The bar 5 is of less width than the bar 6, but both bars are of the same height and length. That face of the bar 5 which is secured to the inner faceof the plate 1 is of greater width than that face of the bar 6 which is secured to the. inner face of the plate 1. The inner face of the bar 7 is inclined or bevelled throughout upon the same plane and the outer face of the bar 5 is formed upon vertical and inclined planes, intercepting each other. The bevelled and straight portions on the outer face of the bar 5 are indicated at 8, 9 and the bevelled edge forms a continuation of the bevelled edge 3. The bar 6 has its inner face bevelled or inclined, as at 10, which extends in the same plane throughout and the outer face of the bar 6 has the outer portion thereof bevelled or extending upon an inclined plane as at 11 and which forms a continuation of the bevelled edge 4. The inner portion of the outer face of the bar (3 is straight as at 12 and when the plate is connected to the roll body said inner part 12 is positioned in a. plane parallel to the plane of a horizontal diameter of the roll. The inner portion of the bar 5 is of greater width than the outer portion thereof and the inner portion of the bar 6 is also of greater width than the outer portion thereof. The outer portion of the bar 5 is in the form of a parallelogram and the inner portion substantially in the form of a triangle. The outer and inner portions of the bar 6 are of triangular contour.
The supporting roll, to which the plate 1 is attached, comprises a body portionformed of two semi-cylindrical sections and means coacting with the ends of said sections for maintaining them in abutting engagement. One of the sections of the roll body is generally referred to by the reference character 13 and the other by the reference character 14.. As both sections of the roll body are of like construction, but one will be described. as the description of one will apply to the other. Each roll body section is formed with a reduced extension at each end and each extension is formed of an inner portion 15 having a tapered periphery 16. Each of said extensions further include a reducec semi-cylindrical portion 17 provided with peripheral threads 18. A se1ni-cylindrical portion 17 merges in the outer end of the tapered portion 16. hen the extensions of the section 13 are arranged in coacting relation with respect to the extensions of the sec tlOlllt, the tapered portion 15 of an extension of the section 13 forms a continuation of the tapered portion 15 of the section 14 and this statement also applies to the reduced portion 17 of the section 13 with respect to the reduced portion 17 of the tion 14.
The inner face of the section 13 is formed with a series of spaced sockets 19, and in which are adapted to extend, when the roll sections are in abutting engagement, holding pins 20 which are secured to and project from the inner face of the section 14. The pins 20 when engaged in the sockets 19 prevent the sections 13 and 14 from shifting relatively to each other.
The inner face of the section 13 is cut away to provide a triangular shaped pocket 21 which opens at the periphery of said section, and the section 1 1-, at its inner face is cut away to provide a triangular shaped pocket 22 which opens at the periphery of the section 14:. The pockets extend from one end to the other end of said roll sections and are of the same c epth, but the pocket is of greater width than the pocket 21 throughout. The pocket 21 is adapted to receive the attaching bar 5 and the pocket 2; the attaching bar 6. The width of the inner end of the attaching bar 5 is less than the width of the pocket 21 at its inner end. .Vhen the attaching bar 5 is mounted in the pocket 21 the inclined face 7 thereof abuts against the inclined wall 23 of the pocket 21. The attaching bar 5 when mounted in the pocket 21 does not extend completely over the bottom of the pocket 21. The attaching bar 6 is of a width greater than the width of the pocket 22 and in said pocket is mounted said bar 6- hen the roll sections are held in abutting engagement, th attaclr ing bar 6, enters pocket 21 and seats on the bottom thereof, as well as abuts against the outer face of the bar 5, see Figure 5. The attaching bars 5 and 6 coact with the pockets 2-1 and 22, to couple or secure the plate 1 to the roll body in the manner as shown in Figure 5. By shifting the roll sections 13 and 1 1 to a position so that the inner faces thereof will extend at an inclinz-rtion with respect to each other, the attaching bars 5 and 6 can be removed from the pockets 2 and 22 whereby the plate 1 can be shifted from off the roll body.
As before stated, means are arranged at each end of the sections of the roll body, for the purpose of maintaining them in abutting engagement, whereby the plate 1 when connected with the roll body by the attaching bars and pockets, will be secured thereto, so that the plate can be used for printing purposes. The means at each end of the sections of the roll body prevent the separation thereof, when in abutting position, and under such conditions prevent any outward movement of the plate 1 with respect to the roll body. The means which is arranged at each end of the roll body, coacts with the threaded portions 17 and the here with the part 17.

As the plate is constructed independently of the roll, after the plate has been used,
it does not necessitate the discarding or smoothing of a roll for when the plate-is removed from the roll another plate can be immediately attached thereto. c
It is thought that the many advantages of a printing roll, in accordance with this invention, for use in printing textile and the plate in enveloping position wit face thereof provided with a lenghtwise extending pocket, a bendable metallic printing" plate. having opposed edges thereof bevelled to overlap when the plate isbent in cylindrical form, a pair of attaching bars secured n, the inner face of said plate and each having a'bevelle il face forming a continuation of a bevelled cdgeof the plate, said bars seated in said pockets to connect h respect to and against the periphery of said body portion, and means engaging with the cuts ofsaid sections when n abutting engagement for detachably securing said sections together thereby maintaining the edges of plate in over apping or abutting position. A printing roll comprising a body portion formed of a pair of sections adapted to bedetachably secured togetherin abutting engagement and each having the inner face thereof provided with a lengthwise extending pocket, a bendable metallic printing plate having opposed edges thereof bevelled to overlap whenthe plate is bent in cylindrical form, a pair of attaching bars secured to the inner face of said plate and each having a bevelled face forming a continuation of a bevelled edge of the plate, said bars'scated in said pockets to connect the plate in enveloping position with respect to and against the periphery of said body portion, and means engaging with the ends of said sections when in abutting engagement for detachably securing "said sections together thereby maintaining the edges of said plate in overlapping or abutting position, and said sections having interengaging means to prevent one shifting relatively to the other when in abutting engagement.

each of the pockets are of the same length as the length of a bar and of triangular contour. c p v v 4- A plate roll comprising a body porticn formed of a pair of semi-cylindrical sections adapted to be detachably secured together in abutting engagement and each having the fiat face thereof provided throughout with a lengthwise extending triangular pocket, a bendable metallic printing plate having opposed edges thereof bevelled to overlap when the plate is bent in cylindrical form, a pair of attaching bars secured to the inner face of said plate and each having a bevelled face forming a continuation of a bevelled edge of the plate, said bars seated in said pockets to connect the plate in enveloping position with respect to and against the periphery of said body portion, each of said pockets opening at the inn-er face and at the periphery of a section, one of said peelets being of greater width than the other,
and one of said bars being of greater width than the other.
5. A printing roll comprising a body portion formed with a pair of detachably connected abutting sections provided on their inner faces with pockets extending lengthwise thereof and opening at the periphery of said sections and further opening at the inner faces of the sections, said pockets being of triangular contour and one of greater width than the other, bendable metallic printing plate provided on its inner face with attaching bars mounted in said pockets for connecting the plate in enveloping position with respect to and against the periphery of said body portion, and means for detachably connecting said sections in abutting engagement.

A printing roll comprising a body portion formed with a pair of detachably con-- nected abutting sections each provided on its inner face with a pocket opening at the periphery of its respective section, a bendable metallic printing plate provided on its inner face with a pair of attaching bars each flush with one edge of a plate, said bars seated in said pockets for connecting the plate in enveloping position with respect to and against the periphery of said body portion and with theopposed edges of the plate abutting, and means for detachably connecting said sections in abutting engage ment.

A printing roll comprising a body portion formed with a pair of detachably connected abutting sections each provided on its inner face with a pocket opening at the periphery of its resp ctivc section, a bendable metallic printing plate provided on its inner face with a pair of attaching bars each flush with one edge of a plate, said bars seated in said pockets for connecting the plate in enveloping position with respect to and against the periphery of said body portion and with the opposed edges of the plate abutting, and means for detachably connecting said sections in abutting engagement, and said sections provided on their inner faces with interengaging means to prevent the shifting of the sections relatively to each other when the sections are in opposed relation.
