Description

Nov. 24, 1925- J. J. WILLIAMS HANDLING TRUCK Filed May 5. 1922 JOB JW/LL/AMS INVENTOR BY I W TTO NEY Patented Nov. 24, 1925.
I UNITED. snares P ATE NT oFnca.
CON SIN, ASSIGNOR TO TTHE FISK RUBBER SACHUSETTS; A CORPORATION OF MASSA- HANDLING Trwok.
Application filed May 3,
To all wiiom it may concern Be it known that I, Jon J. IVILLIAMs, a citizen ofthe United States, and a resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, havev invented certain new and useful Improvements in Handling Trucks, of which the following is a specification. v p
s It has been proposed to carry a plurality m of trays or similar articles by means of a truck having sides provided with ledges on which such trays may be supported. These trucks are open to certain objections such as the necessity of sliding the tray in rather than lowering it from the top and the tendency of the frame to spread and permit the trays to drop from the ledges. My invention provides a truck superior to that now in use and constructed to overcome the above mentioned objections. In the drawings accompanying this specification and forming a part thereof I have shown, for purposes of illustration, one form whieh my invention mayassume. In these drawings! Figure 1 is a general View ofthis illustrative embodiment, while Figure 2 is a detail showing the construction of the uprights. 1 r
The truck herein disclosed comprises a rectangular base 11 supported'by' a plurality of feet .12 which may carry rollers 13. Rising from this base 11 are two sides 14 each comprising a pairiof uprights 15-46 connected at the upper end by a horizontal bar 17. Each of the uprights 15'serves as a I pivotal support for a plurality of arms 18 each secured to a sleeve 19 surrounding the upright and held at the proper elevation by means of spacers 21 surrounding the uprights between the sleeves 19. The arms 18' are supported in inoperative position by hooks'QZ. secured to a pair of strips 23 extending from the base 11 to the horizontal rods 17 and .are supported in operative position by a plurality of similar books. 24
secured to the uprights 16.' V
.VVhen the truck is to be loaded the arms 18 will a'llbe swung back against thestrips 1922. Serial No. 558,312.
23 and the first tray 25 will be positioned upon the base 11 as shown. The lowest pair of arms 18 will then be swung-over onto the hooks. 24.-on the uprights 1.6 and the next tray 25 positioned thereon after which the next pair of arms will beswung over onto the hooks 2st and another tray positioned and so on until the, entire truck is loaded. It will be appreciated from the above disclosure that the support'of the trays 25 is practically unaflected by lateral deformation of the sides of the truck and furthermore that every tray can be loaded directly from the top by a mere depositing motion. It will also be understood that there are other advantages in the construction shown and that this construction may be modified 6 without departing from the scope of my in= vention. While I have disclosed one em;
'bodiment of myinvention and certain advantages 'resi'ding'therein this disclosure is illustrative only andmy invention is, of course, not limited thereto. J
I claim: v I
l. A truck comprising a rectangular base, uprights at each corner of said base, arms hinged on each of two diagonally opposite uprights,'sai darm's adapted for indi vidual and independent movement, hooks on the remaining uprights to support the free end of said arms in operative position across the lends of the truck and means disposed at the sides of said truck to retain said arms when in inoperative position.
2. A truck comprising a'rectangular base and rectangular side frames, arms hinged to the diagonally opposite uprights of said side frames, hooks on the remaining uprights-adapted to support the free ends of said arms when the latter are in operative position across the ends of the truck, and bars providedwith retaining hooks and sup ported by said side frames toretain said arms, in inoperative position. I
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to the above specification.
, JOB J. WILLIAMS.
