Description
UNITED s'rfATss TABLE.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it'V known that I, FREDERICK Hor/u- DAszKA, a citizen of Ruthania, residing at Cobalt, Province of Ontario and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tables, of which .the following is a specification. This inventionJ relates generally to tables, having more particular reference to a collapsible table which may be folded compactly when not in use. l
The invention has for an object to provide a novel and simple arrangement 'of supporting means for the table capable of vertical extension tb permit ofready raising or lowering of the table top upon its base .or support.
thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various noveLfeatures of the invention are more particularly `set forth.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of a collapsible table constructed according to my invention.
'F ig. 2 is a horizontal Section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. l
Fi l' 3 is a transverse vertical section on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1.
As here shown my improved table is supported-near one end of a telescopic box element 10 whichts slidably in an outer box 35 element 11 which may rest upon the floor. Within this box element 10, at the outer end thereof, is ixed a flat block-12 having a pair of elongated rectangular apertures 13' spaced on opposite sides of the center line thereof, the sides of the block being spaced inwardly a short. distance from the sides of the box. This block is formed with a hori- ,n zontally disposed slot 14 which extends completely therethrough from^ side to side, being intersected by the vertical apertures 13. y Extending through this slot'transversely .of the box 1s a vshaft 15 whose ends project through and are journaled in the side Walls of the box element 10, these projecting ends being accommodated in slots 16 in the side walls of the outer box element 11. Extending through and supported inthe slot 14 on opposite sides of the shaft 15 are a pair of rods 18 whose opposite ends project into the spaces between the sides of the block 12 and the side walls of the box element 10.
For further comprehension of the inven-4 tion, and of the objects and advantages' PATEISIT -oFFicEl FREDERICK HOPAIDASZKA, O COBALT, ONTARIO, CANADA.

specification of hausrat-ent. Patented June 14 1921, Application filed May 5,
i Mounted upon the ends of these rods 18 are extensible legs' 1 9 of uthe construction commonlyknown aslazy-tongs and comprlslng opposed diagonal, bars pivoted together at their ends and centers, the .bottom ends of the lowermost pair of bars beingw connected to the rods 18. Secured to and extending betweenthe upper'ends of corre#- sponding top bars of the respective legs are other rods 20, Qthese rods servlng to support a fixed. The table may be provided with an adyustable top 24.- here shown as hinged as at 25 tothe side facing toward the opposite end of the supporting box. A leg -26 is hinged to the top'24 whereby the latter may be supported in an inclined position when des1red, a spring l27 assisting inV raising this The table 21 is preferablyraised by means table 21, being here shown as passing through slots 22 1n cleats 23 upon which the table is of a series of ropes 30 which are secured at one end to the rods 18 and at opposite ends to the central shaft 15,- around which they are adapted to wind when the shaft is rotated in the proper direction. To rotate the shaft 15 one of the yprojecting ends thereof is provided with a crankv handle 31 while .1 t
to prevent reverse rotation of the shaft, and thereby hold the table in raised position, a ratchet Wheel 32 is fixed on the end of theV shaft 15. and is enga-ged by a pawl 33 pivoted on the side Wall of the box element v10,this pawl having a tail 34 by depression of which the pawl may belifted fromV the ratchet wheel to allow the table .to lower, the lowering movement of the. table being accelerated by nexpansion springs 35 bearing between-the bars and shaft, in the' slot 14,
these springs being held against displacef ment by means of retaining strips 36 extending across the slot.
' The device may be conveniently used as an invalds table, being conveniently` kept nnderthe bed when not in use. When it is to be used the box element 10 is drawn .voutwardly in the box element 11 sufficiently to allow the table 21 'to clearthe side of the i bed. The crank handle 31 is then rotated causing the ropes 30 to wind'on the shaft 15 and drawing the rods 18. toward one another, thereby extending the lazy-tong legs 1.9 and raising the table.-
When the table is not needed the tail 34 on` pawl 33 is'de'pressed and the table is lowered, being completely in theconnes of.
its supporting box when in lowered posil claim as new and desire to secure by laetters Patent of the United States is- 1. A table of the class specified, comprisl ing a pair of horizontally teleseoping box elements, a base block in one of said box elements, said base block having ahorizontal slot extending therethrough from side to side and having intersecting said slots, a pair of rods movable transversely of themselves in the said apertures and having their ends projecting beyond the said block, lazy-tong legs secured to the ends of said rods, a pair of rods connecting the upper ends of said legs, a
table proper having slotted cleats through which said rods extend, a 'shaft extending through the said block and the Walls of the said box element, flexible members secured at one end to said first mentioned rods and adapted to Wind on said shaft, and e-Xpansion springs interposed between said rods and said shaft.
2. A table of the class specified, oomprisvertical apertures ing a pair of horizontally telescoping box elements, a base block in one of said box elements, said base block having a horizontalslot extending therethrough from side to side and having vertical apertures intersecting said slot-s, a pair of rods movable transversely of themselves in the said apertures and having their ends projecting and a rotation handle and looking device on l.
respective ends of the said shaft.
