Description

, o. B. VAN FLEET v TOILET sIPHoN BOWL Filed Feb; 20 1924 I INVENTR. 0.3. Van Fleet,
/ BY I ATTORNEY.
Patented Mar. 17, 1925.
UNITED STATES OSCAR B. VAN FLEET, OF TRENTON, NEW JERSEY.
TOILET SIPHON BOWL.
Application filed February 20, 1924.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, OSCAR B. VAN FLEET, a citizen of the United States, residing at Trenton, in the county of Mel cer and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet Siphon Bowls, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to closet bowls, and has for one of its objects to improve the construction and increase the efiiciency of devices of this character, especially of the action of the flushing water.
lVith these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention Figure 1 is a longitudinal section and Figure 2 is a transverse section of the improved device.
Figure 8 is a plan view of a part of the improved device.
The improved device comprises the main body portion indicated at 10 with the usual trap partition 11, flushing rim 12, with its escape orifices 13 and the inflow 14 communicating with the flush rim.
Formed in the path of the inflow lat and externally of the lines of the orifices 13, is a baflle member 15 with the ends converging downwardly and terminating above the line of the trapping water represented at 16. The battle member is united to the adjacent wall of the bowl at its lower and end portions by a web 18, the web being spaced from the bottom and side edges and provided with water escape orifices 17. By this simple arrangement a part of the inflowing water is retarded and diverted laterally and downwardly and caused to flush the rear wall of the bowl with increased force and volume, and likewise with a greater quantity of the flushing water flows through the orifices 13 in the rim 12.
The connecting web 18 being located inwardly of the outer edges of the baffle member 15, a deflecting rib is thereby produced Serial No. 694,034.
which prevents the jets of water which pass through the orifices from being thrown out: wardly toward the interior of the bowl, but on the contrary operates to cause the jets to flow directly against the sides of the bowl and thus materially increase the flushing action.
The improved construction may be adapted without material structural change to bowls and the like of various forms and sizes, and of any suitable material.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the specification, but it will be understood that modifications within the scope of the claimed invention may be made in the construction without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A bowl of the class described having a flushing rim and an inflow communicating with the flushing rim, an imperforate baffle member in the path of the inflow and tcrminating above the lineof the trapping water in the bowl, the inner face of the baiiie member being coupled to the adjacent face of the bowl by a web provided with a plurality of water escape orifices, the web being spaced from the outer edge of the imperforate baflle member to form a stop to direct the flowing jets against the adjacent face of the bowl.
2. A bowl .of the class described having a flushing rim, an imperforate baflle member with diverging ends and located in the path of the inflow and terminating above the line of the trapping water in the bowl, the inner face of the baffle member being coupled to the adjacent face of the bowl by a web provided with a plurality of water escape orifices, the web being spaced from the outer edge of the converging ends and the bottom edge of the imperforate baflie member to .7
form a stop to direct the flowing jets against the adjacent face of the bowl.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature hereto.
OSCAR B. VAN FLEET.
