W F 1 g .4. V fiifimwar. [7200201. I am a? zfzm UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AMOS F. CHAMPLIN, OF WESTERLY, RHODE ISLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN BLlND-SLAT FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 144,062, dated October 28, 1873; application filed April 26, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMos F. OHAMPLIN, of Westerly, in the county of Washington and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Blind-Slat Fasteners; and I'do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same,
reference being had to the annexed drawings making apart of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a front view of blind with my fastener attached. Fig. 2 is a section of same; Fig. 3 is a detail view, and Fig. 4 a view of the wire staple or arming for edge of the blind-slats.
This invention has relation to means for securing blind-slats when adjusted to the position desired; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the curved ratchetspring and the staple-arming for the slats, which operate in connection therewith. The object of this invention is to provide a convenient, economical, and durable means for securing blind-slats.-
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the frame of a blind. B indicates the upper set of slats, and G the lower set, provided with the ordinary connectingrods a.
' To the middle portion b of the blind-frame, be-
tween the sets of slats, is secured the springfastener c. This consists of a slip of spring metal, widened in the center, at d, for convenience in attachment, and in order that this portion may be not so flexible as the ends. These ends, at e, are curved flatwise somewhat to correspond with the sweep of the slat, and
are provided on their under sides with the ratchets 2. To engage with these ratchet ends 0, the lowest slat of the upper set and the uppermost slat of the lower set are provided with wire arming 1:, formed like staples, and driven in their edges; thereby the wear of the ratchetspring against the edge of the wooden slat is prevented.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In connection with a blind, the spring c,haviug the fastening -center d and the ends 6, curved flatwise toward the blindslats, and provided with the ratchets 2 on their under or concave faces,to engage with the armed edges c of the said blindslats, as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
AMOS F. OHAMPLIN.
Witnesses:
