JOSEPH S. DAVIS, 0F ALBEGN, MICHIGAN.
CLOTHESLINE SUPPORT.
Application filed. July 21,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Josnrrr S. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Albion, in the county of Calhoun and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Clothesline Support, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in clothes line supports, particularly to a support for use in drying rooms, the primary object of the invention being to provide a device of this character which will facilitate the supporting of a maximum length of clothes line in a minimum amount of space so that there will be no waste space in the drying room.
A still further object is to provide a clothes line support which will be exceedingly simple and practical in construction, strong and durable in use, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a view in transverse section through a drying room illustrating my improved clothes line supports in applied position with lines thereon; and
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail View illustrating one of the supports and the man ner of attaching the same to a wall.
Referring in'detail to the drawings, the reference numerals 1, l are used to designate the walls of a drying room, 2 indicating the window frames and 3 a door frame of the drying room. Adjacent each corner of the room, a screw eye such as 4: is attached to the wall at a suitable distance above the floor of the room.
One of my improved line supporters indicated by the reference numeral 5 is attached to each eye 4. The supports 5 are in the form of elongated pieces of galvanized wire formed at each end with an integral hook such as 6 and throughout their intermediate portions bent at regular intervals to provide a series of ES-shaped bends such as 7.
One of these supports extends inwardly from each corner of the room. The hook 6 at the free end of the support provides a convenient place of attachment for one Serial no. 486,351.
length of clothes line designated by the reference numeral 8. The S-shaped bends 7 also provide convenient places of attachment for other lengths of clothes lines 9 which are arranged concentrically around the line 8. The particular number of lines which are held by the support 5 depends entirely upon the length of support which may be conveniently used in a particular size of drying room. It will be apparent that the supports might be provided with any number of S-shaped bends or other integral rope receiving devices for the accommodation of a great number of concentrically arranged lengths of line. When the supports are used they may be suspended from the eyes t in the position illustrated in Figure 2, or they may be suspended therefrom in inverted position, as will be readily understood.
It will be evident that the supports 5 need not necessarily be used within a room since they might be conveniently utilized for attaching clothes lines between posts or between the walls of two adjacent houses.
Although I have illustrated one of the preferred embodiments of my invention, it will be apparent that various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from the invention and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details of construction, but shall consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spiritand scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A clothes line supporting element, comprising a single length. of wire bent to provide a hook at one end engageable with a support, a line receiving hook at its other end, and a plurality of line receiving 3- shaped bends at its intermediate portion.
2. The combination with a plurality of spaced supports, of clothes line supporting elements removably attached thereto, each of said elements comprising a single length of wire bent to provide at one end a hook removably engageable with one of said supports, line engaging hooks at the other-ends of said wires, said wires bent at their intermediate portions to provide a plurality of S-shaped bends adapted to receive lines in their upper loops.
JOSEPH S. DAVIS.
