Be it known that I, CnARLns KRIs'rEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pocket-Clips for Pen and Pencil Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to means for attaching a holder for pens, pencils and so forth to the apparel and particularly a clip for supporting said holder.

The object of my invention is to provide a simple and economically constructed clip which is adapted to hook into the pocket of a vest or coat, and embrace and support such holder within convenient reach that will enable the wearer to reach in and remove from or insert articles in the same. This I accomplish by the means hereinafter fully described and as particularly pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawings A represents the case of a holder for pens, pencils and so forth, of a type similar to that described and illustrated in a copending application for patent of the United States filed May M, 1919, Serial No. 297,104.

Connected to one side of this holder it, near the top thereof: is a clip for attaching said holder to the pocket of a coat or vest, consisting of a transversely disposed plate B of a more or less ornate design, and an inteogral hook as will hereinafter be more fully described. The ends of this plate thus secured to said holder are depressed and be tween these ends the plates stand out from the holder and are parallel thereto. Midway between these ends this plate has an up wardly projecting hook shaped clip C, the bend of which latter is about in the same horizontal plane as the upper edges of the holder. When it desired to use the holder, the clip C, the free end of which curves in toward plate l3 and then outward, is caught over the edge of the pocket and clamps the cloth of the garment between it and plate B and prevents the accidental displacement of the holder, whenever the pens or pencils or other contents thereof are inserted or withdrawn.

Between its ends plate 13 is shaped so as to stand out from the adjacent side of the holder and provides the necessary space to accommodate the tablet which is illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings. This tablet consists of two stiff covers, a and 7), that are hinged together at the lower end. The back of the rear cover 6 is faced on the outside with a blotter c, which is held against the same by bending the edges of the said cover over the corresponding edges of the blotter. The front cover of this pad has its side edges rolled outward to provide side channels for the edges of a calendar 0, and between its covers it is provided with a number of waxed paper leaves 7, between which it is intended to place postage stamps. The length of this handle is such that it extends up above the upper edges of the cal endar when the latter is placed back of plate ii, and when the pad is withdrawn the action olf spring 76, moves said handle outward into a position where it can be easily grasped to manipulate the pad particularly when it is to be handled as a blotter.

The modified construction of the clip shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings consists of a transverse band F, that has its ends extended around the sides and the back of the holder and clasps the same. This plate F, has the same kind of hook C, that the preferred form of my invention possesses, and the hook thereof is adapted to be inserted in the pocket of the wearer in the same manner as a hook of the preferred form of my-invention.

What I claim as new is:

1. A clip for pen and pencil holders and the like comprising a transverse plate the ends of which are attached to the said holder, and the body of which between said ends stands out and is separated from the adjacent side of said holder and which midway its length has a hook-shaped clip projecting from an edge of the transverse plate portion or body of the clip.

2. The combination with a pen and pencil holder, of a plate the ends of which are attached to said holder, the body of which between said ends stands out from and is separated from the adjacent side of said holder for the reception of a pad adapted to be inserted between said holder and said transverse plate of the clip, and means attached to the outer side of the pad for manipulating said pad which cooperates with the clip to hold the pad with relation to the holder.

3. The combination with a pen and pencil holder, of a plate the ends of which are attached to said holder, which plate between its ends stands out from and is separated from the adjacent side of said holder for the reception of a pad adapted to be inserted be tween said holder and said transverse plate of the clip, and hinged means attached to the outer side of the pad, which cooperate with the clip to hold the pad against the holder.

4. The combination with a pen and pencil holder, of a clip comprising a transverse plate the ends of which are attached to said holder, which plate, between said ends, stands out from and is separated from the adjacent sides of the holder to provide a space for the reception of a pad, said plate having a hook-shaped clip extending from one edge of its body portion, and a spring pressing element mounted upon said pad which engages the clip to retain the pad in position against said holder said element being operable to project outwardly from the pad when said pad is separated from the clip.
