Specification of Letters Patent. j
Patented Feb. 10, 1920.
Application led May 24, 1917. Serial No. 170,657.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, FRANK J. HRUsKA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cedar Rapids, in the county of Linn and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cabinets and consists in certain improvements in the construction thereof as will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claim.
More particularly the invention relates to cabinets particularly designed for posting.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings as follows Figure 1 shows a perspective view of the device with the drawer closed.
Fig. Q, a similar view with the Vdrawer open.
The cabinet is made up of the base l, sides 2 and rear 3. These and preferably the entire cabinet are formed ofi metal. The cabinet is divided into two compartments by a plate 4L. A drawer 5 is arranged in the lower compartment.
The upper compartment is ordinarily divided by partition plates 6 into two compartments, 7-7. The partition plate 6 is preferably hollow and adapted to slip over the angle piece 6 secured to the rear wall of the compartment. A pin 6b at the forward end of the plate 6 holds the front end in place. A small compartment 8 is formed at the rear of the upper compartment by means of the plate 7a. This may be used for any convenient purpose.
The drawer 5 is formed with the bottom 5a, rear 5b and sides 5. A flange 5d extends down from the plate 4 and contacts Vthe rear piece 5b when the drawer is withdrawn, thus limiting its outward movement. The drawer is provided with a series of posts 9 which divide it into compartments 10 for the reception of checks. The middle posts are screw-threaded at 9a so that they may be removed when it is desired to post sheets of larger size than checks.
The front 11 is hinged at 11a to the front edge of the base and is adapted to swing down to form a guide way and support for the drawer 5 when the drawer is drawn out. -The front 11 has the side flanges 12 which form guides for the drawer as drawn out and also form an overlapping portion which passes by the front edges of the sides 2 when the front is closed, thus rendering flange 16 forming a lap joint over the front' 11, in this manner locking the front in closed position. The edges 17 of the lids form lap joints with each other.
. In posting checks the pile of checks being posted is placed in the front compartment 10. The check as posted is turned over and placed in the rear compartment 10. The deposit slips from which the posting is done are arranged in one of the compart-n ments 7 and those that have been posted are turned face down in the other compartment. These compartments as will benoticed are accessible from the front and top so that the checks or slips can be readily observed and are readily accessible to be changed as the posting proceeds. If the posting is not completed the cabinet may be closed at any point and the slips and checks are retained so that the operation may be taken up where it is left off.
Where larger sheets than checks or deposit slips are being posted the partition 6 may be removed, the guide piece 6a holding it in placewhen in use in connection with the post 6*. l
What I claim as new is A In a cabinet, the combination of a case having an upper and lower compartment, the upper compartment being partitioned from front to rear; a drawer in the lower compartment partitioned crosswise of the drawer, saidv drawer when open being in stepped relation to the upper compartment,
the partitions 'of the `drawer extending in opposite directions from the partitions of the upper compartment; a front hinged at the bottom andwhen open forming a platform for the drawer, said front having flanges lapping the sides of the case when closed; and a folding top for the cabinet having a flange extending when the top is closed over the front and locking the front in closed position.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
FRANK J. HRUSKA.
