To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, PAUL R. German and Moses SELIC, citizens of the United States, residing, respectively, at Waterbury, in the county of New Haven, State of Connecticut, and New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in separable Fasteners; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full,

clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to garment fasteners, and is directed more particularly to a separable fastener designed fonemployment in lieu of the entirely unsatisfactory hook and eye structure of the old and well known type.

An object of the present invention resldes in the provision of a fastener of this character which is of a simple, novel and improved construction, and which may be quickly and conveniently manipulated to securely connect adjacent portions of a garment.

With the above and other objects of similar nature in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrange ment of parts, set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claims.

In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective View of the improved fastener associated with ad acent portion of a garment and in disconnected relation.

Fig. 2 is a detail section illustrating the initial step in connecting the fastener.

Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.

Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawing, there is shown adjacent portions A of a garment wlth which the invention is associated the latter being indicated generally at B.

Specifically the fastener consists of a member 5 in the form of an eye identical in construction with the eye in the old and well known hook and eye fastener. This eye 5 is of substantially U-shaped formation, the legs of the U being spaced and relatively yieldable and terminating in rebent portions 6 throughthe medium of which it is secured to the garment. The other member of the fastener is shown at 7, it being preferably stamped from a blank of sheet metal, as shown, although it may be constructed in any other suitable manner. This member in its completed state consists of an elongated body member, terminating at one end in a hook 8, andprovided at its opposite end with'integral apertured wings 9 through the medium of which it is attached to the garment. The body member is further provided on one face, with a wedge shaped longitudinal rib 10, formed by pressing or stamping the metal upwardly at this point, opposite faces of the rib adjacent the wings 8, being formed with shoulders 11, the purpose of which will presently appear.

The fastener is arranged upon adjacent portions of a garment as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1, and to connect the same the hook 8 is loosely engaged with the bight of the eye 5. The member 7 is then swung with the hook 8, as a fulcrum to bring the rib 10 between the legs of the eye 5, said legs yielding to permit the rib to pass there between, and then snapping behind the shoulders 11, whereby to securely, yet detachably maintain the members in assembled relation. The adjacent portions A of the garment are in this manner held in overlapping relation with the fastener disposed therebetween, and concealed from view as will be evident.

What I claim is l. A separable fastener comprising a substantially U-shaped member having yieldable leg portions, and a second member formed with a hollow longitudinal rib having at one end a hook opening at the hollow side of the rib to be detachably fulcrumed on the bight of the U-shaped member, and having lateral projections adjacent its other end, shoulders on opposite faces of said rib spaced from the lateral projections to provide seats for the legs of the U-shaped memher with the terminals of said legs yieldably engaged therein and detachably held behind said shoulders.

2. A separable fastener comprising an eye member having relatively yieldable leg portions, and a second member having at one end a hook adapted to detachably engage and fulcrum on said eye member and also having a rib extending from the hook with seats in its sides to detachably receive the terminals of the leg portions when the rib is inserted therebetween.

3. A separable fastener comprising an eye member having yieldable leg portions, and a second member formed from a sheet metal, blank having a longitudinal rib struck therefrom and bent to provide a hook at one end of the rib, the blank being formed With attaching portions projecting laterally from opposite sides of the rib at the opposite end thereof, the opposite sides of the rib being bent outwardly to provide shoulders spaced from the attaching portions to form seats therebetween for receiving the terminals of the yieldable leg portions When the rib is inserted between said leg portions for the de- Gopies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Washington, D. 0.

tachable frictional engagement of the terminal leg portions by said shoulders, the hook end of the second memberbeing arranged to detachably engage in said eye member and fulcrumed thereon to dispose said rib between said yieldable leg portions.
