PIVOT FOR SCISSORS AND SHEARS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented'July 16, 1918.
Application led December 5, 191'?. Serial N o. 205,660.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. CONWAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bridgeport, county of Fairfield, State of Connecticut, have invented an Improvement in Pivots for Scissors and Shears, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates lto scissors and shears and has for its object to render them more attractive and desirable by providing the pivots with inset jewels. Y
With theseand other objectsv in view, I have devised the novel jeweled pivot for scissors and shears which I will now j describev referring to the accompanying` drawing forming a part of this specification and using reference characters to indicate .the several parts.
Figure 1 is an elevation, showing the ,application of my invention' to a pair of shears,
Fig. 2 a section on an enlarged scale, on
the line 2 2 inFig. l, looking in the directionV of the arrows,
Fig. 3 a perspective view of the pivot and jewel before assembling, and j Fig. 4 is a view'showing the application of the invention to ka pair of scissors.
lO'denotes the' blades of a pair of scissors` or shears and 11 the pivot. vTheA pivot is threaded lat one end and isl engagedv by a nutl2, which is usually locked inV place by upsetting the endof the pivot. The head ofV the pivot is preferably,l although lnot "necessarily, beveled on itsedge.V Theessential j Copies pf this patent maybe y'c'abtainecrfvor ljewel of eachv pivot is secured in place by cement indicated by 15,r the rim of the socket retaining the jewel securely in place and preventing ,its dislodgment. The base of the socket is preferably provided with a recess 16 which isfilled with cement and adds tothe security of the jewel in its setting.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:-
l. A device of the character described comprising a body provided with a head at one endV and threaded at the other end, said head having a socket therein, a jewel within said socket, and means for maintaining a body of `cementing material within, saidrsocket and in contact with the base of the jewel.
2. A device of the character described comprising a body provided with a head at one end and threaded at the other end, said head having a socket therein provided with Va recess in its bottom, a jewel within said Yiv'eleexits each,V by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. G." Y
