ROBERT E. CAMPBELL, 0F BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA.
GAS-BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 1%18.
Application filed October 6, 1916. Serial No. 124,082.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT E. CAMPBELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Berkeley, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas- Burners, of which the following is a specification. 7
This invention relates to a gas burner of the Bunsen type, one of the objects of the invention being to provide in a simple and substantial form a burner in which more perfect combustion is obtained and which is particularly adapted for use in professions where a steady, small pointed flame of high temperature is required.
Another object of the invention is to provide a burner which can be easily handled and which may be adjusted to project the flame at different angles. I
Further objects will hereinafter appear.
Referring to the drawings which form part of these specifications,
Figure 1 shows a side elevation of the burner.
Fig. 2 shows an end view of the same burner.
Fig. 3 shows a line A-A of Fig. 2.
Fig. a shows a top view.
The burner consists of a base 1, preferably shaped as shown, containing a small ball 2, which is pressed upward against tube 5 by means of spring 3. This spring is held in compression by means of plug 4. Tube 5 passes through two holes 6--6 and the pressure exercised by ball 2 causes sufiicient friction to hold tube 5 at any angle desired, as indicated in Fig. 2 by dotted lines. Tube 5 is provided with a small orifice 7 through which the gas, which is admitted to the tube by means of a rubber tube 8, is
Gopies of this patent may be obtained for sectional elevation along allowed to escape into tube 9. In order to secure a better jet action, the surface of the tube 5 around orifice 7 is slightly flattened as indicated on the drawings. Tube 9 is threaded on its lower end as shown and held in place by threaded sleeve 10, thereby allowing an adjustment in relation to orifice 7.
Part 5 bent as shown, serves as a handle by which the burner can be picked up.
while forms and proportions as shown are preferable, the materials and finish of the several parts of the burner are otherwise such as the judgment and experience of the manufacturer may dictate.
I wish it understood that various changes in form, proportions and minor details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims and that I do not Wish to limit myself to the specific design and construction here shown.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A burner comprising a base member, a compression spring and ball carried within said base member, a gas supply pipe, pass ing through the base member and provided with a discharge orifice, and a burner tube carried by the supply pine and in alinement with the discharge orifice.
2. A burner comprising a base member, a compression spring and a ball carried within said base member, a gas supply pipe passing through the base member and provided with a discharge orifice, a burner tube carried by the supply pipe and in alinement with the discharge orifice, and means for adjusting the position of the burner tube vertically with relation to the discharge orifice.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ROBERT E. CAMPBELL.
