UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN B. WOOD AND JESSE C. JULIAN, OF LOGANSPORT, INDIANA.
OIL-BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 19, 1912.
1 b aZZ who m, 1' t may concern Be it known that we, JOHN B. W001) and Jesse O. JULIAN, citizens of the United States, residing at Logansport, in the county oi. Cass and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
Our improvement relates to oil burners which are used in cooking and heating.
One object of the burner is to convert the oil into a gas.
Another object is to provide a burner which has an oil supply pipe which is protected from the flame by reason of its location.
e attain these results by the construction illustrated in the accompanying draw ings, in which- Figure l is a plan view of the spreader. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the burner and spreader.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the views.
()ur burner consists of a pipe B, spreader C, jet A, and supply pipe E. The spreader C is secured to the pipe by the clamps or rivets D directly over the jet A. The pipe *3 is a supply pipe and leads from the reser voir.
To use the burner open the valve admitting oil into pipe E which will flow out of the jet A when it should be lighted. The heat of the flame from jet A will rise and heat the pipe'under the spreader thereby converting the oil as it flows in the pipe into a gaseous state in which state it will be consumed at the jet A. The supply pipe E feeds oil pipe B from below, thereby render ing it impossible for pipe E to become affected by the heat of the jet A, thereby eliminating a possibility of explosion.
Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
The herein described oil burner consisting of a vertically-disposed pipe in a single piece in substantially the form of a circle, one end of the pipe being continued within the circle and provided with a jet burner, a supply pipe connected with the other end, and a spreader clamped to said circular pipe diametrically opposite said jet, said circle be ing extended laterally upon both sides of said spreader, said jet being substantially in the center of said circle and extended to ard said spreader, whereby the said circular pipe is subjected to the heat from the et. JOHN B. WOOD.
