DETACHABLE COAT STORM-COLLAR.

To all whom t may concern.'

Be it known that l, JOHN H. IsENHoun, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Shakopee, in the county of Scott and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Coat Storm-Collars, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in apparel and has particular reference to an improved type of detachable storm collar for application to coats and the like.

The primary object of my invention is to provide a detachable storm collar for association with the neck band of a coat for use by lumbermen, laborers, and others subjected to severe weather conditions while working or otherwise.

Another object of my invention is to provide a detachable collar of the class described which is simple in construction, the collar being arranged whereby the same may be applied and removed instantly and without the provision of complicated and unreliable fastening devices.

A further obj ect of my invention is to provide an improved arrangement of snap fastening means for use in conjunction with my improved collar.

Other objects and advantages to he derived from the use of my improved detachable coat collar will appear from the followingdetail description and the claim, taken with an inspection of the accompanyingr drawing, in which:

Figure 1 is a disassembled perspective view of a coat showing my improved collar removed therefrom and in position to be applied thereto; and

Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view of the coat neck band and my iinproved collar, showing the latter applied in position.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, wherein similar characters of reference designate like and corresponding parts throughout the various views, 1 designates a coat, the coat being of the construction now common and extensively used by laborers, miners, and others working in the open and often subjected to severe weather conditions. Cf course, it is to be understood that I do not limit the application of my invention to this particular type of coat, the form shown being illustrative of one use.

The coat l is provided with the usual neck-band Q spaced as at 3 at the throat of the wearer. The coat is buttoned as at l in the usual manner. My improved collar includes a body designated C formed of felt or other warmth-giving material folded to provide annular portions 5. The collar C is divided as at 6. If desired, the collar C may be eXteriorly provided with fur or the like. The annular portions 5 of the collar C are to be engaged about the band 2.

l provide means for securely retaining the collar C on the neck band 2. rl`he fastening means includes a plurality of heads, best shown in Fig. 2 and designated 7, the heads being carried by the collar C and passing through metal lined openings 8 formed in the neck-band 2. Receiving sockets 9 are carried by the collar C, the heads being carried by one of the annular portions 5 and the sockets by the other portion, whereby when the collar is applied as shown in Fig. 2 the hea-ds will engage the sockets through the openings 8 retaining` the collar C in position on the neck-band.

It will be seen that the collar may be quickly and easily attached to the neck-band, it being practically impossible to accidentally displace the collar from position for use. lt will be seen that in the provision of the open portion 6 of the collar C the coat may be opened while the collar C is applied. The form of the invention shown is preferred in view of its eXtreme simplicity and cheapness of manufacture as well as the facility with which the same may be applied for use. It is, of course, to be understood that l do not limit myself to the exact type of snap fastener employed since any of the standard types of snap fasteners having slightly elongated heads may be utilized. It is also apparent from Fig. 2 that dise tances and proportions have been slightly exaggerated in order to bring out the construction of the device.

lt is, of course, to be understood that l do not limit myself to the use of the collar as shown. l intend to adapt my improved collar to both standing coat-bands and lyingdown bands, the construction of the protector remaining the same, merely making a change in shape.

From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is thought that a clear and comprehensiif'e understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of my invention may be had, and While I have shown and described the device as embodying` a specific structure, I desire that it be understood that such changes may be made in said structure, as do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination With a neck-band pro vided With a plurality of spaced metal lined openings, of a collar formed of a flexible strip bent on its longitudinal aXis to form annular spaced portions, a plurality of 15 spaced heads on the inner Wall of the outer portion, alining socket members on the adjacent Wall of the other portion, and said heads being adapted to be positioned through the openings in the neckebands and engage 20 the socket members to retain the collar in position on the neck-band.
