Application led April 19? 1917. Serial No.'163,157. ,f
to provide thetabletop with suitable open-v ings which are arranged ironing boards, mechanism being providedwhich whenA actuated will elevate the ironing "boards toa plane above that of the table top so as to facilitate ease and convenience'in ironing, especially in ironing casev articles. Another object otf'the'invention is to provide the table' topwith a niain'or ordinary ironing board and a sleeve board, mechanism being provided for each" board' whereby either one may be selectively elevatedabove the table top. Y l Y A further object of the invention is to hingedly connect the rear end ogf'ealch Lof the ironing boards to one of its supportsand to provide a tray arranged beneath the main ironing board in which the Vnecessary ironing paraphernalia may be kept. l
With these and other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds the invention comprises the various novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described hereinafter andset forth with particularity in the appending claim.
Referring to the drawings,
Figure l is a perspective view of my novel construction of ironing table.
Fig. :2 is a perspective view of the ironing table showing the ironing boards elevated.
Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a vertical transverse sectional view through the table, showing the ironing boards elevated.
Fig. 6 is a sectional plan view taken on the line 6-6 of Fig. 3, and
Fig. 7 is a fragmentary transverse sectional view showing a modified form of means by which the ironing boards may *bek elevated.
Similar characters of reference are used to denote corresponding parts throughout the accompanying drawings and theiollowing description.V
Referring niore particularly to thedrawings my novel construction of ironing'tablewill be seen to embody a frame whicli consists of side boards 1, outer" end --lio'arcls""2, inner endboards 3 arranged iii/spaced rela-A tion tol theV outer end boards, and a'medial boifd 4 MFHHgQClbQtWeen-the 'side boards 11 and the inne-r Vend-*boards 3. 4The trarne"r 'of the table is'designed to be supportedby sui't the outer and inner end boards Qand 3 respectively and adjacent their opposite' ends, each of said le'gsbeing secured position by a bolt 6 extending through said end boards, and each leg is further securedin place by a bolt extending throngh'it and the adjacent side bloardl. A'top 8 is arranged' over the frame A and is provided throughout its `length'with"an opening 9 designed to receive the ordinary or main'ironing'board 10, and is furtherprovided with an opening` 11 designed to'receive the sleeve board 12.V
Cleats 13 are arranged at the lower edges4 and on the opposed faces of lthe medial and side boards and extend throughout the llength of the medial board, and arranged upon these cleats is a tray 14 in which the necessary paraphernalia may be kept.
The main ironing board 10 is hingedly connected as at 15 to a support 16, which latter is pivotally mounted at its lower end on a rod 17 journaled in the cleats 13. In order to support the front end of' the ironing board 10 when elevated, another support 18 is pivotally mounted at its lower end on a rod 19 journaled in the cleats 13, the upper end of this support being beveled so as to t the under side of the ironing board when in an inoperative position. Both of the supports 16 and 18 are connected together for simultaneous movement by rods 20 pivotally connected to their opposite sides and adjacent their upper ends. The support 16 has a handle 22 rigidly attached to it and which extends downwardly therefrom so that a person may readily grasp the handle and swing it downwardly to elevate the ironing board to an ironing 170V able legs 5 which ar'e'po's'itioned between- CJI position as clearly shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 5. A hoolr 93 is attached to the inner Jaee of the side board l and is adapted to engage a keeper 24e carried bythe support 16 to hold and maintain the ironing board in an elevated position against any possible chance of the same collapsing. Y
rlhe rneehanisinor elevating the sleeve board i2 is substantially the same as that j ust described for the main ironing board l0, and is shown to consist of a support 25 pivotally mounted upon a rod 26 journaled in the medial board e and the side board l7 the upper end of this supportfbeing connectved to the sleeve board l2 by suitable hinges The forward end of the sleeve boardv 26. is designed to be supported by a support 27 pivotally mounted on a rod 28, both ofV these supports 25 and 2? being pivotally connected by a rod 29 for simultaneous niovement, The underfaoe of the ironing boardY l2 is recessed as indicated by the numeral 30 and is designed to receive the upper beveled edge of the support 2T, and when the ironing board is elevated to the dotted line position shown in Fig. Ll, the upper edgey or" the support 27 Will ride out of the recess 30 into the position shown. The support 25 is provided with a handle 3l by the aetuation of which the ironing board may be elevated. A. hook 32 is mounted on one side of the medial board i and is adaptel to engage a keeper 38 carried by the support 25 which serves to hold the sleeve board in elevated position against accidentally collapsing. Y n
rl`he rear end ot the. sleeve board when arranged Within the opening 1l and in the same plane with the table top is designed naaasao to rest upon a transversely extending cleat i 3e, While the forward end of the board is beveled as at 35 and engages'a corresponding beveled face at the forward end of' the openingV l1y and serves to support the for- Ward end of the board in conjunction with Y tlieiupper end of the support 2.
En Fig. T will be seen a slightly modiiied form of vmeansv by which the ironing boards may be elevated. in this instance the support 1G is fined on the rod l?, and secured to the outer end oii the rod is a hand Wheel 2% by which the rod may be rotated to swing the support l? andthecironing board upwardly into an elevated position.
in many instances this would bel preferable to the handle 22.
llhat i claim is:
An ironing table embodying a top having an opening therein, any ironing board an. ranged within said opening 1n the same plane ports upwardly to elevate the ironing board r into a plane above the table top.
in testimoniwhereof have signed my naine to this speeication in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
