J. H. MCVEZY IRONING TABLE Filed Dec. 15 1923 Wnmw m. "mm. "m w. "I. m
Patented Aug. 12, 1924.
UNITED STATES JOHN H. MGVEY, OF WESSINGTON SPRINGS, SOUTH DAKOTA.
IRONING TABLE.
Application filed December 15, 1923. Serial No. 680,944.
T all w from it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN H. MCVEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at tVessington Springs, in the county of Jerauld and State of South Dakota, have invented a new and useful Ironing Table, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to ironing tables and aims to provide a table which will be exceptionally rigid when moved to its active position, novel means being provided for preventing the board or top of the table from tilting should excessive weight be placed on one end thereof.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a table of this character which may be folded into a small and compact article for storing, when not in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the com bination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of an ironing table constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an end elevational View of the table.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates the board or top of the table which is of the usual ironing board shape.
At one end of the table 5 is positioned a securing member 6 to which the uprights 7 of the leg member that supports one end of the table have hinged connections as by means of the hinges 8, the lower ends of the uprights 7 being secured to the foot piece 9 that rests on the floor in a manner to prevent rocking of the table when in use.
Leg members 10 have their upper ends pivotally connected to the ends of the securing member 6 at 11, the leg members being pivotally connected to the bracing bars 12 at 13. These bracing bars 12 have their upper ends connected by means of the bar 14 so that the bracing bars are held in proper spaced relation with each other at all times.
As shown, the upper ends of the bars 12 are beveled permitting the bars to lie at angles with respect to the board 5, but at the same time provide a flat surface to contact with the underside of the table. Secured to the undersurface of the board 5 at a point adjacent to one end thereof, is a cleat 15 which is formed with an inclined inner edge 16 adapted to engage the bar 14 and act as a guard to prevent the members 12 from moving downwardly at their upper ends and at the same time prevent upward movement of the table 5.
The lower ends of the bars 12 are connected by a bar 17 which is disposed in spaced relation with the lower ends of the bars to provide extensions designed to engage the ends of the bar 18 secured to the foot piece 9, to insure against lateral movement of the bars 12.
In order that the lower ends of the bars 12 will be held against movement, a fastening means is provided at the lower ends thereof, which fastening means is in the form of a hook secured to the bar 17, which hook is adapted to be positioned in the eye bolt 20 carried by the bar 18. Thus it will be seen that due to the construction of the member 15 and the securing member 19, the
board is held rigid when extended to its active position.
I claim An ironing table including a board, a pair of leg members hingedly connected to the board, a foot piece for connecting the lower ends of the leg members, a bar secured to the foot piece, leg members pivotally connected to the first mentioned leg members, bracing bars having pivotal connection with the second mentioned leg members, means for securing the upper ends of the bracing bars to the board, the lower ends of said bracing bars adapted to engage the ends of the bar secured to the foot piece to restrict lateral movement thereof, and means for securing the bracing bars to the bar secured to the foot piece.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afliXed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN H. MoVEY.
