To all whom it 'may concern Be it known that I, LAURA WINN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented vcertain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Semiskirts; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear` and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specifi-rv cation.

This invention is an improved underskirt for ladies wear; and its object is to provide a sanitary combined semi-skirt and apron which may be used as an underskirt and protector,.with or without other underskirts.

The objects of the invention are to provide a garment of this character which can be readily adjusted, willy fit neatly, and can be easily laundried.

The novel semi-skirt is intended for an article that can be worn at all times and on all occasions, where no other petticoatl is worn, or to protect other dainty undergarments being soiled from perspiration or menstruation.

The semi-skirt has an absorbent portion next to the body and is a far more comfortable garment for Wear during menstruation periods than the ordinary rubber cloth aprons which are uncomfortable after being worn not absorb moisture and become quite slushy and uncomfortable. My novel semi-skirt prevents this discomfort and can be worn at anytime and all the time and will take the place of the non-petticoat, and can be worn with or without other skirts.

The novel semi-skirt is adjusted easily by entirely opening the garment and fastening itat the right side with a button at the lower edge and tie at the waistband; the supporters are fastened to the hose and adjusted;A and the rubber apron can be detached for washing.

I will describe the semi-skirt as illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure lis a side view of the semi-skirt in use. Fig. 2 is a' view of the semi-skirt opened. FigB is a detail sectional view on line 3 3, Fig. 2. Y

The garment consists of front and rear skirt portions l and 2 which are preferably made of fabric such as birds-eye crepe, poplin or silk cloth, and are united at one a few hours, because they do side, say at what'would be the left side of the wearer when the garment is worn, as shown at la; the opposite side edges of such portions are hemmed as shown at 1b, 2"; and are provided with suitable detachable fastenings, a button and button-hole being indicated at 1C, 2C. The upper ends, or waist portions of these parts I and 2 are fitted with darts and provided with casing hems 1d, 2, which casing may be continuous, and through this casing is passed a drawing string 3, by which the semi-skirt can be fastened around the corset and waist of the wearer in the usual manner.

'Ihe semi-skirt when worn is closed to a point below the hips, and is practically slit at both sides` as indicated in Figs. 1, and 2. The lower edges of the semi-skirt portion may be trimmed in any desired manner. l

Attached to the rear portion 2 of the semisklrt is. a wate'rproofed apron 4 preferably made of rubber cloth and which is shorter than the rear portion and may be stitched thereto or fastened on with buttons or clasps such as glove fastenings, at its upper end, as indicated at 4, to make a neat close iitting seam or fastening connection therebetween. The upper end of the said apron is below the waist portion of the semi-skirt, as indicated in the drawings. The rubber face of said apron t is preferably placed against the opposed face of the cloth portion 2, so it will be kept from directly contacting with the wearer by said portion 2. To each side of this apron, near its upper end, is attached a strap 5 which is preferably elastic, and eX- tends diagonally to the apron edge; and when the semi-skirt is worn each strap can be passed partly around the leg of the wearer and attached to the stocking and be used both as a stocking supporter and to hold the apron and rear portion of the semi-skirt neatly and properly in position. The straps 5 are adapted to be passed through tape loops 2I1 attached to the side edges of the rear portion 2 so that when the apron is fastened the rear portion will also be properly positioned. As shown the said straps 5 are provided with the usual stocking engaging devices 6; and the lower ends of these straps are passed through the loops bL of the hose supporting devices and attached to a clamp slide 6C, of ordinary construction, on the strap so that the straps can be adjusted in length to suit the wearer.

Someof the advantages of this garment have been above explained, and other -advantages thereof will bewappreciated byand means for securing same to the waist of the wearer, a waterproof apron attached to the exterior of the rear portion of the skirt, straps connected to the sides of said Y apronV and adapted toextend partly around the legsI of the wearer to coniine the said apron in position relative to the body of the wearer and provided with means to detachably secure their free ends, and means whereby theA rear portionpof the apron is also connected with said straps and held in position i thereby.

2. A semi-skirt and protector comprising an absorbent fabric portion, means for securing same to the waist of the wearer, and

loops attached to opposite side edges of said portion; a Waterproof apron attached to the said portion; and securing straps attached tothe sides of said apron and passing through said loops and'adapted to extend partly around the legs of lthewearer to hold the apron in position, said straps being proy vided with rdevicesvbywliieh they may be' secured in place.

3. The herein described semi-skirt and protector comprising front and rear fabric portionsunited at one side and open at the" opposite s ide, means ufor securing such shirt to the Waist of the wearer, fastening devices for detachably uniting the adjacent edges of 40 saidportions at the open side,a waterproof apron attached to the rear portion of the skirt, and straps attached to oppositersides of the said apron and passing through loops on the adjacentedges of the rear fabric porl' tion and adapted to extend partly around the legs ofthe wearerto hold the apron in position,`said straps being provided with del vices by which they can be engaged with the hoseof the uwearer to hold the straps and apron in position. y y Y Y In testimony that I claim the foregolng as my own, I aflixpmy signature in presence' of two witnesses. y
