CLOTHES-DRYIN G RACK.
Application filed April 2c, 1914.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, AARON M. SPRINGER and Rrnsnooa J. SPRINGER, citizens of the United States, residing in the city of Portland, county of Multnomah, and State of regon, have invented ful Improvements in ClothesDrying Racks, of which the following is a specification.
ur invention relates to clothes drying 1O racks, and more particularly to certain improvements in portable clothes drying racks adapted to be folded up at will into small compass.
The primary object of our invention is to provide an extremely simple, light and inexpensive rack, and one which can be folded into the smallest possible space, and when will stand alone and furnish a large number of bars on which to go hang the clothes.
practical form thereof in the accompanying sheet of drawings which we will now describe.
Figure l is an end view of a rack set up ready for use; Fig. 2 is a side View thereof in folded condition; and Fig. 3 is an end view thereof in folded condition.
The rack as here illustrated comprises two main frames or members A and B, each composed of two upright end pieces as 1-l 2 2, respectively, and having cross or connecting bars 3-3 and H there-between as shown. Said frame members A and B are pivotally connected together so as to cross each other, as at 55, whereby they can be folded together, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, or opened out, as shown in ig. l.
vided at its upper end as C and D, respectivel being composed of two and 77, respectively, connected by bars 8 5 and 9. Said second frames are pivotally connected at their meeting edges, by the members A and B, by means of a through rod or member 10, shown to be'square in cross section between the pieces 77 and round at its end between the pieces 7-6. Said second frames are also pivotally con nected to the main frame members A and B as at 11 and 12. One of the cross bars as 4 on the upper end of the member B is so placed as to be engaged by the frame member D when in open position, as shown in each second frame end pieces as 66 certain new and use Serial No. 833,143.
Fig. 1 thereby preventing said members from further spread. Thus it will be seen of t eir cross bars 3 and 4, as shown in Fig. 3. In other words, the main frames A and B fold together into the same also the second frames C and D. to be noted that when ready for use the cross bars are so positioned one above the other that clothes hanging upon one of said bars hang freely and out of vertical alinement with the other bars. other words, each of the clothes-receiving ars is intended to occupy a separate vertical plane, or to be sufliciently above another, so that clothes hanging thereon will not interfere with another bar beneath it.
As one object of the invention is cheap ness, Without detracting from its usefulness and durability, the cross bars 3, 4, 7 and 8 are secured directly upon the edges of the members 1 and 2, 6 and 7, although it is evident that these might be inset in a manner well understood and need not be here illustrated.
spirit thereof, and we do not, limit the invention to the special showing here made, except as we may be limited by the hereto appended claims.
e claim,
l. A clothes drying rack of the character described, comprising a pair of spaced upright end pieces with connecting bars there with connecting bars therebetween, 0nd pair of end pieces being pivotally attached on the inner sides of the first end top frame and outer PatentedNov. 9, 1915. a
and second upright end pieces, whereby said rack can be folded flat With all of its end pieces occupying the same plane.
2. A clothes drying rack of the character described, comprising an inner frame and an outer frame pivotally connected to fold together With all of their end pieces in eX- actly the same plane, a top inner frame pivotally connected Within said inner frame adjacent its top, and a top outer frame having its end pieces pivotally connected to the outer sides of said outer frame adjacent its top, said top inner frame and top outer Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
