To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I. llvxs J. .Tonxsox. a citizen of the l nited States. residing at Little Rock. in the county of Lyon and State. of Iowa. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supp rrtcrs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full. clear. and exact description of the invention. such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in garment supporters and more particularly to that class adapted to be used for supporting wearing apparel. and my objectis to provide a combined coat. trousers and hat rack.the parts of which are constructed of metal.

further object is to so construct the various parts of the support that it may be folded into a compact bundle occupying but a limited amount of space.

further objectis to provide a collapsible support for the device. And a further object is to provide means for retaining the various parts in assembled formation.

other objects and advantages will be hereinafter set forth and more particularly pointed out in the accompanying specification.

In the accompanying drawings which are made a part of this application. Figure 1 is an elevation of the garment supporting rack ready to be applied to use. Fig. '2 is a similar view showing the rack in folded formation. and Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail sectional view. as seen on line 3. 3 of Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawings in which simila r reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views. 1 indicates the main standard of the rack which is preferably constructed of sections 4. 5 and t1. the section I) being pivotally secured to the section 4. the section 4 to the section 5 and section 5 to the section (i so that when said sections are in vertical alinement. a standard of proper height is provided. The various sections are held in vertical position by means of loops 7. one of which is slidably mounted upon each of the sections 1-. 5 and (t. each loop being adapted to descend over that portion of the preceding section above the pivotal point the size of said loops being such as to hold the standard rigid when positioned over the extending ends of the various sections.

The lower section 3 is provided with an adjustable tripod S which consists of a socket i slidably mounted upon the section 3. said socket having cars 10 arranged in pairs, be tween which are pivotally mounted the upper ends of the legs 11, said legs having pivotally secured thereto adjacent their longitudinal centers. links 12, the inner ends of the links being likewise pivotally secured between cars 13 of a clip 11 said clip being fixed to the lower end of the section 1. The spreading of the legs 11 is regulated by moving the socket 9 upwardly and downwardly on the section 3 and said socket is held in adjusted position on the section 3 by means of a lock bolt 15 which is threaded through the socket 9 and binds against the face of the section 3.

Pivotally secured to the upper end of the section 6 is a frame 16. said .frame being hollow and provided with a central partition 17. thus forming an upper and lower compartment 1S and 19 respectively. the upper end of the section 6 being pivotally mounted in the lower compartment 19 by extending a rivet- 20. or the like. transversely through the front and rear walls of the frame and through the end of the section 6.

The distance between the front and rear walls of the frame 16 is much greater than the thickness of the section (5 so that the end of the section may be moved forwardly or rearwardly in the compartment 19. a spring 21 being positioned around the rivet between the front walls of the compartment 19 and the section 6 to normally hold the section against the rear wall of the frame and as the end walls of the frame engage the side edges of the section 6. the frame will be held in fixed relation as to rotating movement on the section (5 so long as said section rests against the rear wall of the frame. Extending into the upper compartment 19: is a hat support 2'2 which is pivoted in said compartment through the medium of a rivet 23. said rivet extending through the front and rear walls of the frame lt' and having a spring 2-1 therearound between the front a l and pi oted end of the hat support to normally hold the supportagainst the rear wall of the frame.

The two side walls of the frame 11' are provided with slots 33 and lo respectively. which slots are placed midway between the front and rear walls of the frame and are of sullicient width to receive the hat support and section 0 respectively when it is desired to fold the support into a compact form.

Attached to the lower edge of the front wall of the frame by means of a link 27 or in any preferred manner is a trousers support :28. the ends of which are bent inwardly and over the face of the support to form clips 29, which clips are adapted to bind the trouser legs against the support and hold the trousers in suspended position.

Extending from each side of the frame 16 are arms 30. said arms being preferably flat and curved downwardly and are adapted to receive and support a coat or similar garment. said arms having extensions 31 which are held in slidable engagement with the arms by means of loops :32. stop pins 33 being carried on the under faces of the arms to limit the outward movement of said extensions.

In order to fold the rack into a compact bundle as when the same is being transported in a trunk or grip. the extensions 31 are moved inwardly on the arms until the inner ends thereof rest adjacent the frame 16. after which the support 22 and section (3 are moved into registration with the slots 95 and 26 respectively when they are each swung laterally until they rest substantially in horizontal position. All of the loops 7 are then disengaged from their respective standard sections and said standards then swung on their pivot points in opposite directions until they are all disposed into alinement with each other. Previous to folding the section I). however. the lock bolt 15 is loosened and the socket 9 moved upwardly on the section 3 until the legs 11 are folded in juxtaposition to said section 3. and it will be readily seen that when all of the parts are thus folded together. the rack will be in a compact bundle and requiring but a limited amount of space to accommodate the same. This form of device is adapted primarily for travelers and as all of the parts thereof are preferably constructed of metal, it will be practically imlestructible from use. It will further be seen that the rack can be readily set up and secured in rigid formation when it is desired to use the same and can likewise be as quickly disposed into a bundle when desired.

Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A garment support, comprising a standard formed of a plurality of sections pivoted together. means to hold said sections in vertical alinement, a hollow frame having a central partition and slots in the edge walls thereof. means to pivotally secure the upper section of the standard in the lower portion of said frame. a spring adapted to normally hold said section adjacent the rear wall of the frame, a hat support pivotally mounted in the upper end of said frame. a spring adapted to hold the hat support adjacent the rear wall of the frame. said standard and hat support being adapted to be folded into the slots of the frame and disposed into compact formation. telescoping supporting arms on the frame. means to limit the outward movement of parts of the supporting arms and a trouser support loosely suspended from said hollow frame whereby said trouser support may be folded compactly with the other parts.

A garment support comprising a standard. a hollow housing at the upper end of the standard. said housing having a central partition and slots in the edge walls of the frame. means to pivotally secure the lower end of the frame to the standard, a spring between the standard and front portion of the frame, a hat support. means to pivot the same in the upper end of the frame. a spring adapted to normally hold the hat section adjacent the rear wall of the frame. said standard and bat support. being adapted to be moved into registration with said slots whereby they may be folded over into compact formation.
