WARDROBE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 15, 1914.
Application filed March 24, 1913. Serial No. 756,535.
17 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JANE A. VAUGHAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ruby Valley, in the county of Elko, State of Nevada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wardrobes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. i
This invention relates to wardrobes and particularly to those of the portable and folding type. I
The object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of the character named adapted to be folded for transportation in valises, trunks and the like, and when unfolded to be suspended in any appropriate place and used to conceal and protect apparel and other personal articles.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a portable wardrobe which will be simple in construction, eflicient in use and which may be readily folded in a very compact space.
lVith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail ref erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure l is a front elevation of a wardrobe constructed in accordance with the invention, same being shown unfolded and suspended with the cover spread so as to disclose the interior parts of the device; Fig. 2, a section 011 the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a fragmental detail perspective View showing the supporting wires of the device; Fig. 1, a detail perspective view of one of the shelves; Fig. 5, a side elevation showing the device with the shelves removed and the frame work folded, and Fig. 6, a detail perspective view showing the telescoping joint between the sections of the intermediate portions of the corner members of the frame.
Referring to the drawingsthe device is shown as comprising a frame A which includes corresponding corner members B. Each of these members B is shown as comprising an intermediate portion formed of upper and lower sections 10 and 11.
The adjacent terminals of the upper and lower sections 10 and 11 terminate in eye portions 12 and 13 respectively, the eye por-' cross member 16, the connection between the member 16 and the extension members 14 being also of the loop type. The upper end of each upper section 10 is connected to an extension member 17 by means of a loop joint 18 and the upper ends of these extension members 17 are connected to the terminals of supporting wires 19 through the me dium of loops 20.
The front corner members B are connected at the joints 20, 18 and 15 by cross members 21, 22 and 23 respectively, while the rear corner members B are connected at said joints by cross members 21, 25 and 26. Engaged over the supporting wires 19 is a ring 27 whereby the frame may be 0011*,
veniently suspended from a suitable bracket 28. Disposed between the corner members B and supported upon the cross members 21 and 24: is a shelf 29, while another shelf 30 is supported upon the cross members 22 and 25 and still another shelf 31 supported upon the cross members 23 and 26. Each of these shelves is provided at its corners with diagonal slits .32 which receive the corner members of the frame A and permit said shelves to be readily associated with and detached from said frame. The shelf 30 carries on its upper side a substantially volute Wire coil 33 for receiving a hat, while a hook 34 is suspended from said shelf for supporting a suitable garment hanger. The frame A in an unfolded state is adapted to be inclosed by a cover 35 of suitable fabric and detachably connected to the ring 27. The free edges of this cover are provided with ball andsocket connections 86 whereby same may be positively secured in closed relation to the frame to exclude dust and other foreign matter.
By detaching the ring 27 and the cover 35 and then removing the shelves 29, 30
' and 31 it will be apparent that the frame A may be folded into a-"very compact space. This folding of the frame A is accomplished by moving the sections 10 and 11 toward each other to their limit and then folding over the extension members 14 and 17 and the supporting wires 19 and cross tudinally in opposite direction and 'into' overlapping relation, loops onthe outer Gopies of this-patent may be obtained for ends of said sections respectively, extension members having loop ends engaged with the loops at-the outer end of the sections of the intermediate portion, supporting wires piv- "otally connected to the extension members secured to the upper section, cross members havingtheir terminals slidably connected to the front and rear corner members respectively and supported against downward movement by the loop connections, between the sections of theintermediate portion'and the extension members, shelves supported on'said cross members, and a cover' for inclosing said frame.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature', in the presence oftwo witnesses.
