Be it known that l, STEPHEN a citizen of the United States, El Monte, in the county of Los State of California, have and useful. Leather-Punch l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in tl e art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

his invention relates to a new and useful leather punch adapted for use between the handles of a pair of pliers or the like.

An object of the invention is the provision of a device of this nature having novel means for holding the punch proper in an open or closed position.

Another feature of the invention is to so construct the holding means, that the same may be operated by the thumb of a hand to release the punch from an open position, and when released, the fore linger of the same hand may be used for closing the punch.

Another feature of the invention is the provision of simple and efficient means for connecting the base of the punch lirmly to one of the handle members.

In practical fields the details of construction may be subjected to alterations, falling within the scope of what is claimed.

rlhe invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.

ln the drawings: Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the improved punch as applied to one of the handle members, illustrating in dotted lines how the holding means may be operated and the punch thrown to a closed position. Fig. 2 is a sectional view longitudinally through the structure. Fig. 8 is a similar view showing the punch closed. Fig. 4: is a transverse sectional view. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal fragmentary sectional view through the punch showing a different form of means for connecting the base of the punch to one of the handle members.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 and 2 designate two jaw members, which constitute a pair of pliers. The jaw member 1 is constructed with an elongated slot 3, each end of which is almost circular,

Adjacent the lower end 2O of the hollow part, the punch is provided with a recess 21, so that the pieces cut from the leather may easily leave Riveted or otherwise secured in the holder at one end, as shown at 22 is a leaf spring 23. Adjacent to the free kend of the leaf spring is an aperture 211 to receive a lug 25 'of the lower end of the punch, to hold the punch in an open position. When the leaf spring is depressed at the free end, the punch may be closed as shown, the spring engaging the part 26 to hold the punch closed. Extending laterally from the free end of spring is a finger piece 27, whereby the spring may of one hand, while the forelinger of the same hand may be used to throw the punch from an open position to a closed position,
