Be it known that I, LEO GEscHIGKTnR, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in End Opening Mothproof Bags; and Ido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in end opening moth-proof bags and comprises a simple and efficient device of this nature so constructed that the opening end of the bag, when closed, may be held securely to form a tight joint.

The invention comprises a device of the character described, having various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claims.

My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a side elevation of a mothproof bag made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 2 2 of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 33 of Fig. l. Fig. et is a view showing a port-ion of the open end of the bag partially open.- Fig. 5 is a sectional view partially in elevation, and Fig. 6 is an end view of the opening end of the bag closed.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a bag of any suitable material, such as paper or other fabric, chemically treated or otherwise as may be desired, and having an open end, a portion of which is shown in Fig. l of the drawings.

B designates a reinforcing strip, shown in section in Fig. 5 of the drawings, and which extends over the opposite faces of the entrance to the bag and is securely fastened thereto. Strips C and D, of wood or any other material, are fastened to opposite sides of the bag and to said reinforcing strip, and said strip D has countersunken socket members E seated in the outer face thereof, while the other strip D is apertured for the reception of the screws F, the threaded ends of which are adapted to engage the socket member in the manner shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings.

Upon reference to Fig. 6 of the drawings, it will be noted that a iiler member H is fastened to one of the strips as D, extending a portion of the length thereof and which is provided for the purpose of filling the space intermediate the inner edges of the folded portion of the reinforcing strip and marginal edge of the opening of the bag when closed, thus making the outer face of the filler and theouter face of one of the folded parts of thereinforcing strip flush, as shown in Fig. 6 of the drawings.

A supporting hook, designated by letter N, having an angular shank portion, is apertured for the reception of the screw and has its free hooked end preferably over the meeting edges of the adjacent faces of the strips C and D, so that the bag will hang plumb.

Upon reference to Fig. 5 of the drawings will be seen straps O which are seated in recessed portions C of the strip C, as shown in Fig. 2, and which recesses are provided so that the straps, when adjusted in place, will not interfere with the two strips C and D presenting flat clamping surfaces against the reinforcing strip and the upper portion of the bag. Said strips are adapted to support a curved, looped rod J in which hangers of any kind may be held for supporting garments.

By the provision of a bag made in accordance with my invention, it will be noted that the weight of the garments to be supported within the bag is thrown entirely upon the strip C which cooperates with the strip B to clamp the reinforced sides of the bag in close contact, forming a tight joint and also serving to hold the folded iiaps K tight against each other, thus forming a weather and moth-proof joint the entire width of the bag, the said strips being held in clamping relation by means of the bolts and countersunken socket members.

That I claim to be new is :h

l. An open-ended moth proof bag having strips secured opposite each other to the outer faces of the bag adjacent to its open end, a filler fastened flat against the inner face of the bag with its upper edge flush with the upper edges of the strips and eX- tending only partially the length thereof, portions of the upper open edge of the bag adapted to be folded upon themselves and, when folded, occupy the spaces intervening between the ends of the filler and the ends of said strips with the outer face of one fold flush with the face of the filler, thereby forming a tight joint the entire length of the strips when the bag is closed.

2. An open-ended moth proof bag having strips secured opposite each other to the outer faces of the bag adjacent to its open end, a filler fastened fiat against the inner face of the bag with its upper edge flush with the upper edges of the strips and eX- tending only partially the length thereof, portions of the upper open edge of the bag adapted to be folded upon themselves and, when folded, occupy the spaces intervening between the ends of the filler and the ends of said strips with the outer face of one fold flush with the face of the filler, thereby forming a tight joint the entire length of the strips when the bag is closed, a screw passing through one of said strips, a socket countersunken in the opposite strip and enga-ged by the threaded end of the screw, as set forth.

3. An open-ended moth proof bag having strips secured opposite each other to the outer faces of the bag adjacent to its open end, a filler fastened flat against the inner face of the bag with its upper edge flush with the upper edges of the strips and eX- tending only partially the length thereof, portions of the upper open edge ofthe bag adapted to be folded upon themselves and, when folded, occupy between the ends of the filler and the ends of said strips with the outer face of one fold flush with the face of the ller, thereby forming a tight joint the entire length of the strips when the bag is closed, the inner face of one strip to the recessed strip and adapted to hold portions of the bag in said recessed portions, a part of each strap being flush with'the inner face of the recessed strip, and means for holding the strips together.
