PAPER-HAN GER APPLIANCE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 31, 1918.
Application filed May 31, 1918. Serial No. 237,520.
Y '0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THORA B, JAcoBs,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Kenneth, in the county of Rock, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Hanger Appliances; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements'in paper hanging appliances more particularly of that type adapted to hold a strip of wall paper in convenient position to be applied to a wall or ceiling.
It is in general the object of the present invention to simplify and otherwise improve the structure, and to increase the efficiency and ease ,of operation of devices of this character, and it is more particularly an object to provide a paper supporting device wherein the supporting member is adjustable b'oth vertically and angularly of the main frame, to readily adapt the device for differing conditions of use.
- A more detailed object resides in the provision of such a device which, when not in. use may be manipulated to occupy a minimum amount of space.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention resides more particularly in the novel combination, formation and arrangement of,p'arts hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the paper supporting device constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view therethrough on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view taken transversely through the device and showing one of the supporting boards in raised and angularly adjusted position.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, there is provided a pair of side standards each formed of an inner board 6 and an outer board 7, connected at their lower ends by nails or other securing means 8 passed therethrough and through a spacer board 9 whereby the boards are spaced slightly apart to form a channelway for an extensible board 10 disposed between the upper boards of the standard and provided throughout substantially its entire length with a longitudinal slot 11. A thumb screw 12 is passed through the upper ends of the " standard boards 6 and 7 and through the slot 11 and serves normally to bind the upper ends of the standard boards against'the extensible board 10. For
supporting the side standards, a pair of obliquely extending legs 14 are hinged at 13 at the lower side edge portions of the board 6, and these legs may be swung to assume any convenient angle, or they may be folded against the boards 6 when the device is not in use. The standards are adj ustably connected by a board 15 having one end hinged at 16 to an intermediate portion of one of the inner standard boards 6, and having its other end engaged on the outstanding ledge of an angle plate 17 bolted to the other board 6, the board 15 being secured to said ledge by a bolt 18 passed therethrough and through the ledge, and it is noted that the securement of the angle plate 17, and of the hinge 16 to the plates does not interfere in any manner with the free passage of the extension board 10 between the boards 6 and 7.
One of the extension boards 10 is provided at its upper end, above its slot 11, with a bearing opening 19 adapted to receive the pintle end of a shaft 20 on which is mounted a paper holding roller 21, preferably formed of rubber, and the other extension board 10 is provided with a bearing recess 22 adapted to receive the other end of the roller. The mouth of this recess is normally closed by a bar 23 slidably held in a spring clip 24 mounted on the upper edge of the board 10 at one side of the recess.
By the foregoing structure, an exceedingly simple, eflicient and readily manipulated device has been provided whereby a strip. of wall paper may be supported for convenient application to a wall or ceiling, by training it over the roller 21, and it is noted that inasmuch as the boards 10 which carry the roller are disposed slidably between the boards 6 and 7 at but a single point by the said screw 12, that said boards 10 may be raised or lowered, or swung angularly in either direction to adapt the device for differing conditions of use, and that said boards 10 mayi be firmly gheld position by tightening the thumb screw 12 to bind said boards between the standard boards 6 and 7. v "1 It is also noted, that by removing the attaching bolt 18 of the connecting board 1 5' of the standards, that the entire device may tbemade to occupy a minimum'amount of space to facilitate its transportation from place toplace and its storage When not in use. To facilitate movement of the device from'place to place when set up in position Within a room, casters are mounted on the the standbers, a set screw carried by each standard and engaged in the slot of one of the support members to adjusta bly clamp said support member to the standard and paper Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
lioldingmeans carried hythe upper ends of the support members.
2. A paper hanging appliance including a. pair of standards each comprising a pair of boards spaced apart and secured together at" their loWer ends, means for connecting the standards, a board disposed between the boards of each standard and movable laterally and longitudinally therebetWeen and provided With a longitudinal slot, thumb screws passed through .the boards of the standards andthrough the slots of the interposed boards for clamping said boards between the standard boards and'paper supporting means at the upper ends of said in terposed boards.
