To all whom, it may concern a Be it known that I, PAUL von Hmssic, lieutenant in the Austrian army, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and a resident of 4 Rennweg, Vienna III, Austria-Hungary, have invented an Improved Station-Indicator; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to an improvement in station indicators. a i

The invention chiefly consists in plates arranged behind each other being'mounted in a tippmg manner in a casing, so that in one position the front surface of the plate with the station name which is foremost at thetime, is visible and in the turned position, appears the back surface with the advertisement. 1 i j A construction ofsuch "an apparatus is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 being alongitu dinal section, and Fig.2 asection'on line A-QA of Fig. 1. a j

On an oblique floor 1 inside the casing 2 provided with a window, is arranged a pack of plates 3 placed behind each other and prevented from turning over by fingers 4 4 of two alternately operated double armed levers 5 5 rotatable about one and the same spindle 6. All" the plates 3 are uided on two or more bow-shaped guides T which pass through the plates through holes 9 arranged near the bottomedge of the same, and are secured in a detachable manner to the back wall of the casing. In the plates is further arranged, at the point where the fingers engage with them, a recess 10, in'such a manner that it alternates with the recessof the next plate. The recess is required in order that, after the release of the front plate by an operative finger, a second finger which becomes operative, should be able to pass through the recess of the front plate to the next, so as to hold fast the latter and the remaining plates while the front plate turns over.

5 5 engaging with the disks, are alternately raised and lowered, one lever, for instance 5, being situated between two fingers of one disk 11, while the other lever 5 is just on the level of the teeth of the other disk 12.

The operation of the device is effected by a bar 15 controlled by a spring 17 and carrying a pawl 16 engaging with the ratchet wheel 14. At the indication of the station, the cam disks 11, 12 are turned by the movement of the rod 15, and the two fingers 4 4 of the double-armed levers 5 5 areraised or lowered. Owing to that, one of the fingers 4 will be raised and will release the front plate, while the finger which was in the raised position, will be simultaneously lowered and will prevent the plates behind it from turning. The released plate turns over and slides downward along the guides 7, so that the rear surface of the turned over plate becomes visible, the said surface being provided with advertisements.

The plates can be easily brought at once upward into the turning position by turning them upward along the guides 7, and pressing them against the fingers which are always directed downward,,e1ther owing to their own weight or by spring pressure, until the plates come to lie behind them.

The lifting of the plates is facilitated by means of an auxiliary plate 18 arranged between the guides 7 and suspended by means of a hinge 19 on a frame 20 which is in its turn connected with the rear wall of the case by means of a hinge 21. The plate 18 is provided with projections 22 holding the plates 3 in a distance from said plate 18. If the plate 18 is turned upward in the direction of the arrow, it turns first with the plates 3 about the hinge 21 and after abutment of the frame 20 t-o the floor 1 it assumes the position indicated in dotted lines. At this movement the plates 3 tip about the projections 22 and lean against the auxiliary plate, the lower border of said plates being at thesame time lifted, so that the plates are easily brought over the floor 1 where they rest standing and are held by means of the fingers 4, 4. When left hold of, the auxiliary plate falls down in the vertical position.

What I. claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In combination, a suitable support, aplurality of parallel bow-shaped guides each the plates within the hold of the first-named means including a normally pendent frame pivoted 1n sald support on an axis parallel with the plates and relatively back of the same and a plate suspended from said frame and pivoted thereto on an axis also parallel with the plates, substantially as described.

2. In combination, a suitable support, a plurality ofpar'alle'l bow shaped guides each arranged with one extremity thereof above the other and inclined upwardly toward its free end, a floor inclined substantially in the same direction as and arranged below the upper extremities of said guides, a pack of plates standing edgeavise on said floor and arranged transversely of and on saidupper extremities of the guides and movable downwardly on the latter onto their lower extrernities, means for releasably holding the plates on said floor and the upper extremities of the guides, and means for resetting the plates within the hold of the first named means including a normally pendent frame pivoted on said support on an axis parallel with the plates and relatively back of the name to th" same and a plate suspended from said frame and pivoted thereto on an axis also parallel with the plates and having a projection on 7 extremity thereof above the other and inclined upwardly toward its free end, a pack of plates arranged transversely of and on the upper extremities of the guides and movable downwardly thereon independently of each other, holidingdevices each movable back and forth. into and out of holdingen gagelnent with the side of the pack facing the direction of downward movement of the plates and a pair of counterpart cams revoluble en anaxis parallel with said'plates, respectively operatively engaging said de vices and: disposed in retatively staggered relation to each cther,,substantially as described.
