To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, VVILHELM BARTI-IOLDT DIDRIOK Ponnnioi-nius, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 132 Toorak road, in the post town of South Yarra, a district of the city of Prahran, a suburb of the city of Melbourne, in the county of Bourke, State of Victoria, Commonwealth of Australia, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Device for Raising or Lowering Curtain-Poles and the Like, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this invention is to provide an appliance by which curtain poles and the like, whether or not suspending curtains or drapings, may be removed from or'replaced upon their supports without the use of ladders or like devices. 4

The invention is cheap, light, strong an underangeable and maybe used as a stand to temporarily support an article while being properly arranged or draped and then for placing it in its permanent position. When not in use it maybe readily folded or contracted to absorb a minimum space. It is especially useful in the household but may also be employed for removing or hanging goods in warehouses, shops and similar places and further may be utilized for suspending articles for show purposes.

Referring to the drawings which form a part of this specification: Figure 1 is a side elevation of the appliance for suspending a curtain pole or the like. The device is shown collapsed or closed in broken lines. Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view of portion of Fig. 1.

The invention includes a handle 2 the length of which depends upon circumstances. The said handle may, if desired, for portion of its length, be of a telescopic character whereby the said length may be readily increased or diminished. Formed in the upper end of the handleis a vertical slot-way 3 (Fig. 2) across the top of which extends a pivot pin 4.

In the slot-way 3, and capable of moving up or down therein, is a sliding guide. This consists of a sleeve 5 embracing the handle 2 and a cross piece 6 accoini'nodated by the slot-way 3. The cross piece 6 is pro- Specification of Letters Patent.

vided with a right outstanding portion 7 i and a left outstanding portion 8.

With the foregoing is used a right link 9 pivoted, by a pivot pin 10, atits lower end, to the right out-standing portion 7 and a left link 11 pivoted, by a pivot pin 12, at its lower end, to the left outstanding portion 8. Pivoted to the pivot pin 4 is the inner end of a right lever 13 and also pivoted to the said pivot pin 4 is the inner end of'a left lever 14. To the right lever 13 is pivoted, by a pivot pin 15, the upper end of the right link 9. To the left lever 14 is pivoted, by a pivot pin 16, the upper end of the left link 11.

Pivotally connected to the right lever 13, at or near the outer end thereof, is a right hook '17. Pivotally connected to the left lever 14, at or near the outer end thereof, is a left hook 18; The hooks may if necessary, be covered with any soft material, such as leather, to protect from injury the article supported by them, as will be hereinafter understood.

This invention is used as follows :-VVhen it is desired to elevate a curtain pole for eX- ample, the said pole is placed upon the hooks 17 and 18 which are supported by the levers 13 and 14. These in turn are upheld upon the links 9 and 11 which are supported in the slot-way 3 by the sliding guide. The handle 2 is elevated and the pole may be deposited upon its usual supports attached to the wall, window frame or similar place. If it is desired to store the device it is only necessary to elevate the outer ends of the levers 13 and 14. The handle 2, the links 9 and 11 and the levers are all then in line.

Having now described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. An improved device for raising or lowering curtain poles or the like, consisting of a handle, levers pivoted to the upper end of the handle, a supporting device pivotally connected to the outer end of each lever, a link pivoted at its upper end to each lever, and a sliding guide extending between the lower ends of the links and pivotally connected thereto.

2. An improved device for raising or lowering curtain poles or the like, consisting of a handle having a vertical slot-Way in its upper end, a sliding guide moving in said slotway, levers pivoted to the handle at the top of said slotvvay, and a link pivotally connected to each lever and the guide.

3. An improved device for raising or lowering curtain poles or the like, consisting of a handle having a slotWay in its upper end, a pivot pin extending across said slotway at the top thereof, a sliding guide moving in said slotway and consisting of a sleeve embracing said handle, a cross piece attached to said sleeve and having outstanding portions, a

link pivoted to each outstanding portion, opposite levers each pivoted at its inner end 15 to the pivot pin across the slotWay and pivoted to the said links, and a hook pivotally connected to each lever at its outer end.
