Abstract

1. CNT-FELP module, features and key factors: In the later parts of 20th century, nano sized carbon fabricated in tubular shapes have been fabricated successfully attracted interest of scientists and entrepreneurs world-wide. CNT features its characteristics as the beneficial emitter used to emit electron streams spontaneously when adequate bias electric potential has been applied. The attention had been focused to the phenomenon of emission of electron streams from CNT emitters and various attempts have been developed and enhanced R & D works became the events for the researchers and entrepreneurs. The unique characteristics attracted our attention also and we have conducted serious research work attempting to develop the unique module to be used as the back light for LCD and PDP. We developed the vacuum-encapsulated sandwich type module as our proto type based upon the phenomena of light emitting characteristics from phosphor luminescent layer when bombarded by the high energy electron beams. 2. Basic structure of CNT-FELP module: Basically the module is consists of two glass substrates; anode and cathode panel in sandwich form surrounded with insulating spacer and frame keeping 3-5mm gap between two panels and then vacuum-encapsulated. The structure of module is robust and rigid enough against vacuum pressure. The surface of cathode and anode panel are micro etched in matrix shaped conducting layer. However the anode surface uses transparent conducting layer. ITO for transmission of light from phosphor layer. Upon the conducting layer on cathode panel, micro patterned CNT emitters are deposited and on the other anode panel, upon the micro patterned ITO layer, thin phosphor layer has been deposited in matrix form as the light emitting source when bombarded by high powered electron beams. Metallic grid in matrix form fabricated with LIGA process with insulating frame and spacer, then piggy-backed on CNT emitters will be high voltage powdered to enhance the electron beams with high speed and energy when flowing though the aperture of the grid and then to anode.
