Abstract
Exhaust gas after-treatment unit (1), in particular for use close to the engine in the case of a combustion engine of an automobile, comprising a housing (2), which contains a catalytic converter (3) surrounded by at least one return flow region (6) through which material can flow substantially freely, wherein the catalytic converter (3) comprises a first face (14), a second face (16) and hollow spaces (10) through which a fluid can flow in an inflow direction (15), wherein furthermore the first face (14) of the at least one catalytic converter (3) is connected to at least one gas feed line (13) and at least one gas removal line (25) is connected in a substantially gas-tight manner to the at least one return flow region (6), and wherein at least one flow deflection means (17) effects a deflection (20) of the fluid from the catalytic converter (3) into the return flow region (6), through which material can flow substantially fi-eely, of the housing (2). The exhaust gas after-treatment unit (1) according to the invention is characterized by a compact construction, improved starting up properties and lower thermal alternating stresses compared with conventional exhaust gas after-treatment units.
