Abstract
A passive mixer decreases the thermal stratification in a tank or pool of liquid at a first temperature on introducing a fluid medium or fluid at a second temperature which is higher than the first temperature. An outlet line extends into the pool in order to introduce the fluid medium. A jet pump is arranged in the pool or tank and has a housing in order to contain a column of the pool liquid therein, the housing having an inlet at one end thereof and an outlet at the opposite end thereof. An injector nozzle is flow-connected to the outlet line in order to receive the fluid medium therefrom and the injector nozzle is arranged in the housing inlet for the longitudinal injection of the fluid medium into the housing in order to pump the liquid from the inlet through the housing to the outlet to circulate the liquid in the pool. In one illustrative example, the outlet line bears non-condensable gas from a condensor in a nuclear reactor plant into a wet-shaft pool which is designed as a heat sink. The jet pump circulates the liquid in the pool passively, the injected gas being used for the motive energy.
