Abstract

The device includes a control unit with at least one controllable current valve and timing arragnement for - controlling the current through a lamp upon switching on. Thus a delayed increase of current is obtained from zero to a chosen operating current over a predetermined time interval while the voltage over the lamp during at least said time interval is below the operating voltage is maintained. Power to - below the operating voltage. Power to the lamp is maintained at a constant level which is reduced by up to approxiately 15 per cent relative to the effect which is achieved at the prescribed operating voltage. The power reduction is obtained by cutting off the current valve upon passing the voltage zero and by fully opening it upon achievement of a chosen voltage level.
