Abstract

The invention relates to a method and a device for the controlled retardation of steel bars in the approach system of light-section cooling beds with an additional braking force arranged above the lifting slide. It is the aim and object of the invention, despite an increased approach speed of the rolled stock, to retain the length of the approach systems and brake the cooling bed bars in such a way that a uniform position of the head ends is guaranteed even when the residual ends occur. According to the invention, the object is achieved by the fact that, under computer control, braking elements optionally act from above on the cooling bed bars depending on the intensity of retardation required within the approach system.
