Abstract

1438003 Lamp holder CARR FASTENER CO Ltd 5 Aug 1974 [6 Aug 1973] 37160/73 Heading H2E A lamp holder comprises a one-piece cupshaped housing 10, e.g. of nylon with a cylindrical rim 12 fitting an aperture (38, Fig. 4, not shown) in a support plate and a skirt 15 pulled into sealing engagement with the plate by bayonet-action clips 30 in notches (39, 40) in the plate, the clips being mounted by supports 25, 26 on a metal ring 17, each clip including a trailing part 33 with a crest 34 which enters a notch to resist disengagement. The ring 17 is secured by peripheral tangs (18, 19, Fig. 1, not shown) projecting downwardly into slots in a wall 11 joining the lower part 13 of the cup to the rim 12, and also carries contacts 21, 22 shaped to retain the bulb (not shown) by bayonet action. The ring 17 and a resilient strip 35 contacting the lamp cap each carry a respective external contact tang 20, 37 which passes through the wall 11. The contact strip 35 may be backed up by a carbon steel spring 76 (Fig. 7, not shown), or two contact strips 50, 51 (Fig. 5, not shown) may be provided for a two-pole bulb in which case one of the securing clips 30 and the corresponding notch are enlarged so that the lampholder can be fitted in only one angular position. In another embodiment the sealing skirt includes a groove (70, Fig. 7, not shown) containing an 0-ring (71), an annular projecting sealing area (72) being optionally provided on the support plate to mate with the groove. A weatherproof sealing shroud (73) may also be fitted to protect the electrical connections of the tangs 20, 37 to external wiring.
