Abstract

1,109,723. Weaving terry fabrics. CANNON MILLS CO. 20 Sept., 1965 [22 Sept., 1964], No. 40075/65. Headings DIE and D1K. The reed of a terry loom is operated to beat up the fast and loose picks by a shaft 90, Fig. 6, which is rocked by a cam 111 acting through a follower lever 103 and a hooked link 100 normally engaging a pin 102 on an arm 96 on the shaft. In order to weave plain headings between successive dowels, the hook can be disengaged from the arm 96 by energising a solenoid 120 under the control of a pattern mechanism. Fig. 10. Three reading needles f pass through holes or longitudinal slots in a tape p to make electrical contact with a drum 155 and thereby energise corresponding solenoids, namely: the solenoid 120 controlling the formation of pile; a solenoid controlling the ratchet of the terry warp let-off motion: and a solenoid controlling the ratchet of the fabric take-up motion. The pattern tape is made of polyethylene and is guided by rollers 156 which are adjustable along slots to cater for different lengths of pattern; the rollers are supported at one end only so that the pattern tape can ba threaded on to them endwise; the rollers need not be rotatable. Both runs of the tape pass together under a shaft 180 which carries a singletoothed member 177 to advance the pattern drum 155 by one tooth of a wheel 176 every third pick (for three-pick terry). The fabric take-up is interrupted when changing from terry to plain weaving to prevent thin places in the fabric; this may also be done when changing back to terry. Marks may be made to show where to out the fabric into separate towels by operating the reed to give partial beat-up halfway along the plain weave portionis. The pattern mechanism may control additional solenoids for perfotming other functions, such as operating a change box. yarn may be further subjected to a relaxa-
