[Also in Division F4] Two assemblies of rod electrodes are carried on one side only of a web 14 to be dried in a rotatable rectangular housing 34 mounted in a wheeled supporting framework 16 by yokes 24, 26, which framework also carries an H.F. or R.F. generator 98 supplying energy to the electrodes. The electrodes of the two assemblies are positioned alternately, coplanar, in parallel and transverse to the direction of web travel, each electrode of one assembly being energized by connection at 62 to a lower R.F. plate 64 and the electrodes 66 of the other assembly being earthed by connection to the housing. Variation in the energy applied to the electrodes is achieved by altering the spacing between the fixed plate 64 and a lower, vertically adjustable plate 70 which may be coupled to a further plate 74. A coupling member, Fig. 5 (not shown), enables connection between the generator and the plate 70 irrespective of the degree of rotation of the housing. A control panel 112 and transformers, rectifiers and other equipment 110 may be remotely positioned. The apparatus is in modular form to allow combinations of the apparatus in various positions e.g. stacked vertically.
