Description
The invention relates to the production of a bulk-macroporous structure of palladium, which can be used as a catalytic, electrode material for the storage and separation of hydrogen isotopes by the chromatographic method.
(International Journal of Hydrogen Energy 32 (2007) 5033 - 5038 Preparation and dynamic deuterium gas loading of highly porous palladium bulks. (Optoelectronics and advanced materials - rapid communications vol. 9, no. 7-8, july - august 2015, p. 974 - 980. Wei Feeng, Xiaodong Zhu, Lixia Peng, Xu Zhou , Jian Luo) [2].It is also known to obtain porous palladium by spark processing of palladium powders (Optoelectronics and advanced materials - rapid communications vol. 9, no. 7-8, july - august 2015, p. 974 - 980. Porous palladium materials prepared by spark plasma sintering with addition of nanopore forming agent and surface treatment (Wei Feeng, Xiaodong Zhu, Lixia Peng, Xu Zhou, Jian Luo) [2].
Известен способ обработки сплавов или интерметаллидов, в котором электроактивный компонент растворяется химически или электрохимически в водной среде и формируется пористая структура из оставшегося инертного металла (Mrs bulletin, Vol. 43(2018) www.mrs.org/bulletin Dealloyed nanoporous materials with interface-controlled behavior and Karl Sieradzki) [3].There is a known method for processing alloys or intermetallic compounds, in which an electroactive component is dissolved chemically or electrochemically in an aqueous medium and a porous structure is formed from the remaining inert metal (Mrs bulletin, Vol. 43(2018) www.mrs.org/bulletin Dealloyed nanoporous materials with interface-controlled behavior and Karl Sieradzki) [3].
(ECS Transactions, 28 (25) 1-13 (2010), Nanoporous Gold: A Novel Catalyst with Tunable Properties A. Wittstocka, J. Bienerb, M. [4].The use of an aqueous medium in the course of selective dissolution makes it possible to obtain materials with pore sizes on the order of tens of nanometers. The pore size and low electrical conductivity of the aqueous electrolyte, as compared to the melt, hinder the transport of ions through the thickness of the formed porous material; the duration of the process in this case can reach tens of hours, depending on the geometric dimensions. For example, in (ECS Transactions, 28 (25) 1-13 (2010), Nanoporous Gold: A Novel Catalyst with Tunable Properties A. Wittstocka, J. Bienerb, M. ) to obtain a porous structure by selective etching, samples 250 µm thick were treated in an acid solution for 48 hours [4].
The higher electrical conductivity of ionic melts compared to aqueous solutions (by an order of magnitude) makes it possible to significantly intensify selective dissolution. High temperature accelerates the mass transfer, in addition, the coarsening and stabilization of the resulting porous structure occurs in the process.
The objective of the invention is to obtain a bulk-macroporous structure of palladium for the purposes of catalysis, electrolysis, storage and separation of hydrogen isotopes, as filters, membranes, etc.
For this, an electrochemical method for obtaining a bulk-macroporous structure of palladium is proposed, including selective anodic dissolution of a palladium alloy containing 60 wt. % silver, the rest is palladium, the alloy is treated with an anode current in a eutectic mixture of lithium chloride, potassium chloride and cesium chloride at a temperature of 400 to 510 ° C, electrolysis is carried out in a potentiostatic mode at a potential of 0.3 - 0.35 V relative to the silver reference electrode , during electrolysis, the current flowing through the electrolyzer is monitored, and when the current reaches a constant minimum value, the electrolysis is stopped.
пл. 260 °С).It is known that with increasing temperature, recrystallization and coalescence of elements of the porous structure are accelerated, which leads to embrittlement of the resulting material along with an increase in the pore size. Hence, it is important, along with the condition of sufficient speed of the process, to lower its temperature. Suitable media for electrolysis are alkali metal halide melts. They are cheap, electrochemically stable under the conditions under consideration, have a low vapor pressure, can be reused, but have relatively high melting points. Practically established the possibility of using the eutectic mixture: 30 wt. % lithium chloride, 16 wt. % potassium chloride, 54 wt. % cesium chloride (T. pl. 260 ° C).
In the claimed method, it is proposed to use a three-electrode electrolyzer, with potential control using a silver reference electrode. When the electrode potential is set within the stated limits, only the more electronegative component of the alloy, silver, dissolves, and an open-porous ligament structure consisting of palladium is formed. The control of the process completion is carried out by the output of the current to a constant minimum value. Silver dissolved in the process is deposited on the cathode and can be disposed of.
As a result of using the method, a bulk-macroporous structure of palladium with a pore size of the order of hundreds of nanometers was obtained in thousands of seconds, which corresponds to the IUPAC definition (https://goldbook.iupac.org/terms/view/M03672) [5] as “macroporous”, which can be used as a functional material.
A new technical result achieved by the claimed method is to obtain a bulk-macroporous structure of palladium with a pore size of the order of hundreds of nanometers.

Example 1. Alloy of palladium with silver composition 60 wt. % silver, 40 wt. % palladium in the form of a plate 0.4 mm thick was subjected to selective dissolution in a eutectic mixture of lithium chloride, potassium chloride, cesium chloride at a temperature of 407 °C. This mixture was prepared by fusing weighed portions of chemically pure and analytical grade reagents, then it was stored in dry nitrogen. The cell is set to a high-purity argon atmosphere. The electrode is buried in the melt so that the contact area is 0.7 cm 2 . The potential is set to 0.3 V with respect to the silver reference electrode. After 3000 s, the electrolysis current reached a constant value of 5-7 mA/cm 2 , after which the process was stopped. The electrode was washed from electrolyte residues in water and an aqueous solution of ammonia. Energy dispersive microanalysis showed that the surface of the sample consists of pure palladium. A porous ligament structure was obtained (Fig. 1): ligment diameter 500-1500 nm, space between ligments 1500-2500 nm.
Example 2. Conditions similar to approx. 1, but the temperature and potential are set equal to 504 °C and 0.35 V. The contact area of the selectively dissolved electrode with the melt was 1.3 cm 2 . The current during electrolysis, normalized to the geometric area of the working electrode, is shown in Fig. 2. In FIG. Figure 3 shows a micrograph of the resulting porous surface structure, which, according to energy dispersive microanalysis, consists of pure palladium.
