Embodiments of the present invention will be described below.
(工程(a))
(Process (a))
In step (a), an apparatus for reducing carbon dioxide is prepared. As shown in FIG. 1, the apparatus includes a
The
The
The anode 13 contains a metal. Examples of suitable metals are platinum, gold, silver, copper, nickel, and titanium. As long as the metal is not electrolyzed, the material of the metal is not particularly limited.
The anode 13 is in contact with the
As shown in FIG. 1, the
The
(Process (b))
In the step (b), a negative voltage and a positive voltage are applied to the

The potential difference applied between the
In a preferred form, a
The
As shown in FIG. 1, a
(Example)
The following examples illustrate the invention in more detail.
Example 1
The surface was peeled off using a Kapton tape on a rectangular parallelepiped high-quality graphite (HOPG) having a side of 10 mm and a thickness of 1 mm to expose a clean surface. Thereafter, the aluminum tape and HOPG attached on the glass plate were bonded using a silver paste, and the periphery of the HOPG was sealed with araldite to produce the electrode catalyst (cathode electrode) according to the present invention. Using this electrode catalyst, an electrochemical reduction reaction of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) was performed. A schematic diagram of the structure of the electrochemical cell used for this measurement is shown in FIG. This cell has a three-electrode cell configuration in which the produced GC electrode is used as the
In the measurement, first, nitrogen (N 2 ) gas was allowed to flow in the electrolytic solution at a flow rate of 200 ml / min for 30 minutes to maintain the bubbling state, and O 2 in the solution was excluded. Next, the piping was switched to CO 2 gas, and the bubbling state at a flow rate of 200 ml / min was maintained for 30 minutes, and the
Subsequently, a CO 2 reduction experiment was performed using this GC electrode and applying −2.0 V to the cathode electrode based on the Ag / AgCl electrode. This state was maintained for 8854 seconds, and the total energization amount was 10C. Thereafter, the product obtained by the CO 2 reduction reaction was analyzed. A gas chromatograph was used to analyze the gas component, and a liquid chromatograph (see FIG. 2) was used to analyze the liquid component. The analysis results are shown in Table 1.

Table 1 shows the production amounts of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, methane, ethylene, and formic acid in Examples and Comparative Examples.
As is apparent from Table 1, formic acid is mainly produced using the carbon electrode in the examples. From Examples 2A to 2C, the efficiency is highest when -2.0 V is applied, and about 80% of the total charge is used for formic acid production. Further, from Comparative Example 1, no decomposition reaction of the carbon electrode itself occurred. Therefore, it can be said that the produced formic acid is produced by a reduction reaction of dissolved CO 2 in the
