Abstract
Description
п.The invention relates to a method for producing a gas-tight solid oxide tubular electrolyte with ionic conductivity, which can be used in the manufacture of various electrochemical devices, for example, solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), electrolyzers, etc.
[1].Among the high-temperature SOFC systems, tubular and planar structures are distinguished, which differ from each other by the materials of the interconnector, the method of supplying the gas stream and the organization of the individual elements in the overall system. At the same time, the tubular design has several advantages: 1) there is no need for complex high-temperature seams, 2) the fuel can be internally converted using water vapor from the anode chamber, 3) good gas insulation. These features allow you to organize the efficient operation of SOFC at temperatures below 1000 ° C and use an electrolyte with a thickness of less than 50 microns, which allows to reduce the ohmic resistance of the cell. Therefore, the tubular design is the most promising for use in SOFC [1].
It is known that the electrolyte layer must be gas-tight to prevent the mixture of fuel and oxidizing agent, and also as thin as possible to reduce the electrical resistance of the cell. But the technology for producing high-density ceramic tubular electrolytes is complicated due to the complexity of forming a structure with the correct geometry.
In [2], a tubular design electrolyte was prepared as follows. Thin films of a solid electrolyte based on zirconium oxide stabilized with yttrium oxide (YSZ) 5–30 μm thick were formed using a thermoplastic binder, for example, polyvinyl butyral, using the technology of casting films on a lavsan substrate, using nano-sized and micro-sized powders for slip. From nanopowder films, separated from the dacron ribbon, patterns were cut, which were then wound in 6, 12 and 18 layers on the steel core of the mold. After evacuation and heating to 125 ° C, magnetic pulse pressing was performed at a pressure of about 0.3 GPa and sintering in an atmosphere of air at a temperature of 1150 ° C for one hour. As a result, gas-tight tubes of solid electrolyte with a diameter of about 10 mm and a wall thickness of about 60, 120, and 180 μm with a grain size of ceramic of about 100 nm were obtained. The disadvantage of this method is the complexity of the process, as well as the difficulty in ensuring reproducibility of obtaining the exact dimensions of the tubular elements.
One of the most modern and promising methods for producing ceramic tubular products is plasma spraying, which allows to obtain elements of any shape while maintaining the constancy of their size and geometry. Plasma spraying can produce layers with a thickness of tens of microns to tens of millimeters, while the obtained samples are heat-resistant and have little shrinkage during sintering, which is difficult to achieve using traditional methods, for example, slip casting.
Closest to the claimed invention is a method for producing a porous permeable ceramic product [3]. The method includes plasma spraying by particles of a uniformly large ceramic material based on aluminum oxide by a plasma jet onto a removable mandrel by forming monolayers. Moreover, as stated in the description, in this way a ceramic material is obtained with an open directional channel porosity corresponding to a high permeability of the product. Plasma spraying is carried out by impacting the sprayed particles of ceramic material with the surface of the mandrel at an angle of less than 45 °, excluding zero, with each monolayer being formed with a thickness of not more than 0.04 mm. After reaching the required thickness of the ceramic material, the obtained tubular element is cooled and the mandrel is removed. Thus, columnar structure products with a porosity of 6-8% are obtained. These porosity values do not allow using this method to obtain a gas-tight solid oxide tubular electrolyte for a SOFC carrier base, since gas density is a prerequisite for its use in this quality.
The objective of the invention is to obtain a gas-tight solid oxide tubular electrolyte for the SOFC support base.
To this end, a method is proposed that includes plasma spraying particles of a ceramic material uniform in size by a plasma jet onto a removable mandrel. The new method is characterized in that plasma spraying is carried out by particles of an oxide ceramic material with ionic conductivity followed by vacuum impregnation of the obtained porous tubular electrolyte with a solution in which cations are taken in the same ratio as the sprayed material, while vacuum impregnation of the tubular electrolyte is repeated until gas density is achieved using intermediate drying or low-temperature annealing at the temperature of decomposition of the solution salts, after which the tubular electrolyte is sintered at a temperature phase formation.
In the proposed method, plasma spraying is carried out by particles of oxide ceramic material uniform in particle size with ionic conductivity by a plasma stream onto a removable mandrel by forming monolayers similarly to the prototype method, after which the tubular electrolyte is impregnated with a solution in which the cations are taken in the same ratio as the sprayed material. The vacuum impregnation of the tubular electrolyte is repeated until gas density is achieved, while intermediate drying or low-temperature annealing is carried out between the impregnations at the temperature of the decomposition of the solution salts. The final sintering of the tubular electrolyte is carried out at a phase formation temperature, which is individual for each material, and can lie in the temperature range 1300-1700 ° C, after which the electrolyte material reaches a gas permeability of 0 * 10 -3 μm 2 , that is, it becomes gas-tight. This is a new technical result achieved by the claimed method.
The method is illustrated by drawings, where in FIG. 1 shows a micrograph of the original plasma ceramics YSZ3.5; in FIG. 2 is a micrograph of a plasma ceramic YSZ3.5 sample after vacuum impregnation and firing.
The synthesis of a high-density tubular electrolyte with a tetragonal phase of zirconium-yttrium oxide ZrO 2 - 3.5 mol. % Y 2 O 3 (YSZ3.5) was carried out as follows. On a mandrel (model) of steel, with the technological layer of the separator applied, layer-by-layer spraying of YSZ3.5 powder was performed. After reaching the required wall thickness of the product, the tubular electrolyte on the mandrel was cooled to a temperature not higher than 100 ° C and lowered into a bath of water to dissolve the separation layer.
1.3571.To achieve gas tightness, the obtained tubular electrolytes YSZ3.5 were subjected to vacuum impregnation in a solution of zirconium and yttrium nitrates taken in the same ratio of cations as in sputtering, i.e., as in the formula 96.5 mol. % ZrO 2 / 3.5 mol. % Y 2 O 3 . Zirconium oxycarbonate ZrOCO 3 and yttrium oxide Y 2 O 3 were used as starting reagents. The solution was prepared taking into account the content of zirconium oxide in it of 20 mass. % after calcination. To prepare 1500 ml of the solution, 731.71 g of ZrOCO 3 and 22.58 g of Y 2 O 3 were required. The conversion factor Mr (ZrOCO 3 ) / Mr (ZrO 2 ) was considered equal to 1.3571.
The calculated amount of zirconium oxycarbonate was added portionwise to 400 ml of concentrated nitric acid, with constant stirring, to avoid intense gas formation, resulting in a solution of zirconium nitrate. A solution of yttrium nitrate was prepared separately: the calculated amount of yttrium oxide was mixed with diluted nitric acid (1 part HNO 3 conc. / 1 part H 2 O), the mixture was heated until the oxide was completely dissolved. A solution of yttrium nitrate was mixed with a solution of zirconium nitrate. The total volume of the solution was adjusted to the desired concentration.
2.The impregnation was carried out in a vacuum desiccator during preliminary evacuation of tubular electrolyte samples with the subsequent supply of a nitrate solution directly into the desiccator. Then, the dried tubular samples were calcined at a temperature of 420 ° C to decompose the zirconium-yttrium salts. The approximate number of impregnation cycles to achieve gas density at a given solution concentration was 4-6 times. The final sintering of tubular electrolytes YSZ3.5 was carried out at 1470 ° C for 10 hours to form a phase of stabilized tetragonal zirconium oxide. The gas permeability of the thus obtained tubular electrolytes was 0 * 10 -3 μm 2 .
1.3571.To prove the feasibility of the invention in the claimed scope, received a high-density tubular electrolyte with a cubic phase of zirconium-yttrium oxide ZrO 2 - 10 mol. % Y 2 O 3 (YSZ10), i.e. the electrolyte was also obtained by plasma spraying with particles of an oxide ceramic material with ionic conductivity. To do this, the same sequence of actions was performed as described above, the obtained tubular electrolytes YSZ10 were subjected to vacuum impregnation in a solution of zirconium and yttrium nitrates, taken in the same ratio of cations as during sputtering, i.e., as in the formula 90 mol. % ZrO 2/10 mol. % Y 2 O 3 . Zirconium oxycarbonate ZrOCO 3 and yttrium oxide Y 2 O 3 were used as starting reagents. A solution was also prepared taking into account the content of zirconium oxide in it of 20 mass. % after calcination. To prepare 1500 ml of YSZ10 solution, 731.71 g of ZrOCO 3 and 48.84 g of Y 2 O 3 were required. The conversion factor Mr (ZrOCO 3 ) / Mr (ZrO 2 ) was considered equal to 1.3571.
The preparation of the solution and the impregnation of porous tubular electrolytes of the cubic phase YSZ10 was carried out similarly. The final sintering of tubular electrolytes YSZ10 was carried out at 1600-1650 ° C for 10 hours to form a phase of stabilized tetragonal zirconium oxide, as a result of which a gas-tight tubular electrolyte was also obtained.
This method is characterized by the simplicity of conducting and the absence of expensive equipment, and therefore it is effective and promising for producing gas-tight tubular ceramic electrolytes with ionic conductivity and other composition that can be used as a supporting electrolyte base of SOFC.
