Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a technology for producing zeolite adsorbent in the form of monoblocks intended for use in cryogenic technology for drying and purification of air and other gases, as well as for conditioning the working environment of refrigeration machines.
A known method of producing a ball zeolite type A, not containing binders (Sat. Zeolite catalysts and adsorbents. TSNIITENeftekhim, 1978, issue 33, S. 59). According to this method, powdered kaolin is calcined at a temperature of 700-750 ° C for 2-4 hours. The calcination metakaolin is mixed with sodium hydroxide so that the molar ratio of sodium oxide to alumina is 0.3. The resulting plastic mass is formed into granules, which are then dried at 80 ° C to a residual moisture content of 20 wt.%. Dry granules are crystallized in an alkaline aluminate solution, washed and dried.
The known method has the following disadvantages.
3.1. The ability to obtain type A zeolite only in the form of spherical granules with a diameter of 3-5 mm, and not a zeolite monoblock of complex configuration with a volume of 2-500 cm 3 .
2. The inability to use this zeolite in cryogenic technology as the active (working) material of bulk filters with a volume of 2-500 cm 3 due to the breakthrough of the crude gas through the adsorbent layer.
3. Low permeability of granules for gas or liquid flow.
4. High mechanical wear of granules when working in bulk filters, leading to dust formation, which is unacceptable according to the requirements for cleaned gases.
A known method of producing granular zeolite type A or zeolite type A in the form of a finished product (for example, tubes, cylinders). In this case, in the first case, the extrusion method is used, and in the second case, casting (in the book by D. Breck. Zeolite molecular sieves. M., MIR, 1976, p. 328-329). As raw materials, kaolin is used, which is molded, dried and calcined at a temperature of about 700 ° C, which leads to the formation of metakaolin in the molded object. According to another technique, in the molding of products, type A zeolite powder is used, which is mixed with kaolin. Products containing metakaolin after calcination are subjected to aging and cooking in a sodium hydroxide solution.
The result is preformed products consisting of almost 100% type A zeolite.
This method has the following disadvantages.
1. Low permeability of crystallized zeolite products to gas flow and, as a result, a high pressure drop across the filter.
2. Reduced adsorption capacity of products (blocks) due to the difficulty of crystallization of blocks with a volume of 2-500 cm 3 , due to high diffusion difficulties when impregnating metakaolin products with sodium hydroxide solution.
The closest in technical essence and the achieved result to the proposed invention is the "Method for producing granular zeolites" (AS USSR No. 210104, B.I. No. 6, 1968), according to which powders of kaolin and zeolite type A are mixed, moreover zeolite is used in an amount of not less than 10 wt.%, counting on kaolin (preferably the introduction of zeolite in an amount of 25-70 wt.%). The mixture is moistened and formed into granules. The granules are dried, then calcined at 600-650 ° C for 6-12 hours. The calcined granules are placed in an alkaline solution and crystallized at 60 ° C for 24 hours, then at 95 ° C for 24 hours. Zeolite granules are washed with water from excess sodium hydroxide and dried.
This method has the following disadvantages.
3.1. The possibility of obtaining type A zeolite only in the form of cuttings granules with a diameter of 2.0-4.0 mm, a length of 4.0-6.0 mm, and not a zeolite monoblock of complex configuration with a volume of 2-500 cm 3 .
2. The inability to use this zeolite in cryogenic technology as the active (working) material of bulk filters with a volume of 2-500 cm 3 due to breakthrough without cleaning the working medium through an adsorbent layer.
3. When working as an active (working) material in bulk filters, high mechanical wear of granules due to water hammer, leading to dust formation, which is unacceptable according to the requirements for the gas to be cleaned.
The aim of the invention is to obtain a zeolite block with a volume of 2-500 cm 3 permeable to gas or liquid, with high adsorption and mechanical characteristics.
This goal is achieved in that the crumb of type A zeolite, which does not contain binders with a size of 0.1-2.2 mm, is mixed with powdered kaolin in a mass ratio of 1: (0.4-0.8). The mixture is moistened and molded into blocks of 2-500 cm 3 . The blocks are dried before the crystallization stage in an alkaline solution, and then calcined first at 100-250 ° C for 3 hours, then at 550-700 ° C for 4-8 hours.
A comparative analysis of the proposed method with the prototype allows us to conclude that the claimed method differs from the known molding type A zeolite crumbs, which does not contain binders, a certain fractional composition with powdered kaolin in a mass ratio of 1: (0.4-0.8). To give the blocks with a volume of 2-500 cm 3 the necessary strength properties, their calcination before the crystallization stage is carried out according to a stepwise temperature regime: first at a temperature of 100-250 ° C - 6 hours, then at a temperature of 550-700 ° C - 4-8 hours.
An analysis of known methods for producing zeolite adsorbents in the form of granules and blocks showed that the use of type A zeolite and kaolin as a raw material is known. However, only the fact of joint mixing of type A zeolite crumbs with a fractional composition of 0.1-2.2 mm with powder kaolin in a mass ratio of 1.0: (0.4-0.8) in combination with a stepwise calcination mode of the blocks before the crystallization stage is first at 100-250 ° C, then at 550- 770 ° C for 4-8 hours allowed hydrothermal crystallization to produce type A zeolite blocks of significant geometric dimensions (2-500 cm 3 ) that do not contain binders. The resulting blocks have high permeability to the gas stream, have good adsorption and mechanical characteristics.
Thus, the authors for the first time proposed conditions for the preparation of zeolite blocks with a volume of 2-500 cm 3 permeable to a gas stream or liquid, i.e. not creating a pressure drop of more than 0.1 atm, which will allow using these filters in the form of monoblocks in cryogenic technology and replacing bulk filters in air conditioning systems of the working environment of refrigeration machines.
The essence of the invention is as follows. A crumb of granular zeolite type A, not containing binders, size 0.1-2.2. mm are mixed with powdered kaolin in a mass ratio of 1.0: (0.4-0.8). The mixture is moistened and molded into monoblocks in special molds. The obtained monoblocks, of a predetermined configuration and volume from 2 to 500 cm 3 , are dried at room temperature for 6-18 hours. Before the crystallization stage, the blocks are first calcined at 100-250 ° C for 6 hours, then at 550-770 ° C for 4-8 hours. The calcined blocks are placed in an alkaline solution, while the ratio of the mass of the blocks to the volume of the solution is 1: (2 -3) (g / cm 3 ), the concentration of the alkaline solution for sodium oxide is 120-130 g / l, for alumina 0-30 g / l. In this solution, the blocks crystallize at 60-95 ° C for 8 hours. The crystallized blocks are washed with water from excess sodium hydroxide and dried at a temperature of 100-250 ° C. The stages of hydrothermal treatment — crystallization, washing and drying — are typical for the preparation of granular type A zeolite that does not contain binders.
As a result of all these operations, monoblocks of type A zeolite are obtained that do not contain binders of a given geometric shape and volume from 2 to 500 cm 3 , which have an adsorption capacity for water vapor at 20 ° C and relative pressure P / P s 0.1 and 0.5, equal to 0.23-0.25 cm 3 / g, and high gas flow permeability, providing a pressure drop during the passage of the air flow at a speed of 0.1 m / s through each 1 cm of block thickness 0.01-0.1 atm.
3.An increase in the particle size distribution of type A zeolite crumbs in excess of 2.2 mm leads to insufficient mechanical strength of blocks with a volume of 2 to 500 cm 3 .
A decrease in the particle size distribution of crumbs below 0.1 mm causes a deterioration in the permeability of the blocks during the passage of air flow, i.e. increase in pressure drop across the filter.
When the ratio of zeolite crumb: kaolin 1: less than 0.4, the mechanical (strength) characteristics of the blocks deteriorate, cracks form, or the products break.
При увеличении этого соотношения 1 : больше 0.8 происходит ухудшение проницаемости гранул и, как следствие, увеличивается перепад давления на фильтре (блоке).With an increase in this ratio 1: greater than 0.8, the permeability of the granules deteriorates and, as a result, the pressure drop across the filter (block) increases.
The calcining of the molded block immediately at a high temperature of more than 250 ° C caused mechanical destruction of the block due to cracking.
An increase in calcination temperature above 700 ° C caused thermal amorphization of the zeolite previously introduced into the composition of the molded block.
An increase in temperature above 250 ° C at the preliminary stage of calcination contributed to the rapid drying of the block and its partial (in some cases) cracking.
