Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of electrochemical technology for the production of oxygen.
[1]. A known method of producing oxygen by electrolysis of a solution of sodium alkali in an electrolyzer, divided into 2 chambers by a diaphragm [1].
Oxygen generated during electrolysis is freed from water vapor passing through a filter and is used, and hydrogen is burned.
During electrolysis, gaseous hydrogen is released at the cathode, which requires energy consumption to clean it from water vapor and burning.
[2].There is also known a method for producing oxygen by electrolysis of an aqueous solution, where a reduced cathode (MnO 2 , AgO) is used in the electrolyzer, while oxygen is released on the anode [2].
- в ходе электролиза необходимо восполнять израсходованные количества восстанавливаемых катодных соединений оксидов;
The use of known methods has several disadvantages, namely:
- during electrolysis, it is necessary to replenish the consumed amounts of reduced cathodic oxide compounds;
- during the reduction of oxides (MnO 2 , AgO), metals are formed which precipitate and pollute the electrolyte.
The reasons that impede the achievement of the technical result indicated below when using known methods include the fact that a large amount of electrical energy is consumed in order to obtain the target product, which is associated with the consumption of valuable chemical compounds and the inability to restore the system after electrolysis.
The objective of the proposed method is the expansion of the field of oxygen production.
The technical result is to increase the efficiency of the process due to the simplicity and accessibility of technology and energy savings.
The specified technical result is achieved by the fact that the process is carried out in an electrolyzer with a porous diaphragm and nickel electrodes, and quinone is used as the substance being restored at the cathode, the consumed amount of which is compensated by reversing the electric current.
The process is carried out in an electrolyzer, divided by a porous diaphragm into 2 chambers with mounted nickel electrodes. A saturated alkaline solution of quinone is poured into the cathode chamber, and an alkali solution into the anode chamber.
At the cathode, quinone is reduced to hydroquinone; gaseous oxygen is released at the anode.
The electrolyzer works until the quinone is completely reduced to hydroquinone.
The amounts of oxygen and reduced quinone generated during electrolysis depend on the amount of electricity passed through.
By changing the direction of the electric current (reversal), after full use of the initial concentration of quinone, the system is restored to its original state due to the oxidation of hydroquinone.
The analysis of the prior art by the applicant, including a search by patent and scientific and technical sources of information, and the identification of sources containing information about analogues of the claimed invention, allowed to establish that the applicant did not find a source characterized by features identical to the essential features of the claimed invention.
The possibility of implementing the method is confirmed by examples.
Example 1. Electrolysis is carried out in an electrolyzer, the anode and cathode chambers of which are separated by a ceramic diaphragm.
Nickel metal is used as the cathode and anode material.
The current density of 0.1 A / cm 2 . Catholyte and anolyte - 4 M sodium alkali solutions. The catholyte contains 20 g of quinone.
During electrolysis at the cathode, quinone is reduced to hydroquinone, gaseous oxygen is released at the anode.
98%. The current oxygen output is 98%.
Example 2. Electrolysis is carried out according to the conditions of example 1 until the quinone is completely consumed, determined by the release of hydrogen bubbles at the cathode. Reversing the current results in the oxidation of hydroquinone to quinone and the system can be reused to produce pure oxygen.
- процесс получения кислорода в предлагаемом электролизере значительно упрощается за счет многократного использования восстанавливаемого вещества, каким является хинон;
(MnO2, AgO).The proposed method has several advantages:
- the process of producing oxygen in the proposed electrolyzer is greatly simplified due to the repeated use of the reduced substance, which is quinone;
- there is no need to add valuable components (MnO 2 , AgO) consumed during electrolysis to the catholyte.
The method can be implemented both in laboratory and on an industrial scale.
For the inventive method in the form as described in the independent paragraph of the claims, the possibility of its implementation using the means and methods described in the application is confirmed.
