Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the metallurgy of non-ferrous, rare and trace elements and can be used in the practice of refining platinum metals.
A known method for the separation of osmium [1], including oxidation to tetraoxide, distillation and absorption of the latter with sodium hydroxide solution, filtering the resulting solution of sodium dihydroxosmate, reduction of sodium hyposulfite to osmate, precipitation of ammonium chloride with Fremy salt (osmyltetramine dichloride).
The method has a number of significant disadvantages, among which:
- the duration of the allocation due to multioperation due to the need for preliminary transfer of osmium to a high degree of oxidation,
- low degree of extraction (80 - 92%), due to the distribution of osmium between the mother liquors and target industrial products.
20 - 80oC.Closest to the proposed technical essence and the achieved result is a method based on the sorption of osmium from hydrochloric acid solutions using polyacrylonitrile dimethyl methacrylate fiber structure and dimethylamine [2]. The method includes the steps of preparing the solution for sorption - the introduction of hydrochloric acid to its concentration of 0.1 mol / l - and the actual sorption, carried out for 15-30 minutes at a temperature of 20 - 80 o C.
This method is selected as a prototype.
The objective of the invention is to increase the degree of extraction of trace amounts of osmium and the unification of the sorption process.
The task is achieved by the fact that in the test solution containing osmium in oxidation states +8, +6, +4, +3, or with the simultaneous presence of several forms in an aqueous solution (up to pH 8), HCl medium with a concentration of 0.1 - 6 mol / L or H 2 SO 4 with a concentration of 0.1-4 mol / L, a sorbent is introduced - silica chemically modified by complexing or anion-exchange groups and under static conditions, with mechanical stirring of the solution, sorption is carried out for 10-15 minutes.
The essence of the method lies in the fact that the osmium in solution is quantitatively extracted with a sorbent - silica chemically modified, for example, with a thiourea derivative with the formation of mixed osmium (III, IV) coordination compounds on the surface of the sorbent. Moreover, the form of osmium in the initial solution, the degree of oxidation, the nature of the acid and the pH of the medium to
The range of HCl content (0.1 - 6 mol / L) and H 2 SO 4 (0.1 - 4 mol / L), as well as the acidity of the solution (pH <8) and sorption time were selected experimentally taking into account the maximum degree as a criterion extraction of osmium. An increase in the acid content above the specified limits leads to a certain decrease in the degree of extraction of osmium, which, apparently, is associated with protonation of the sorbent. Raising the pH of the medium above 8 leads to the destruction of the sorbent, as well as to the appearance of colloidal solutions of osmium dioxide. A sorption time of less than 10 minutes is not enough to completely extract osmium.
For a better perception of the method, the following examples are offered.
47%. The degree of extraction of osmium is calculated by determining the residual concentration of osmium by the kinetic method. In this example, the degree of extraction was 53%, due to the high acidity of the solution. When using osmium tetraoxide as the initial form, the degree of extraction is reduced to 47%.
100%. Example 2 (the proposed method). 100 ml of osmium (IV) solution with a concentration of 0.010 mg / ml are placed in a laboratory reactor with a stirrer. 1 g of sorbent - silica chemically modified with derivatives of thiourea - allylthiourea is introduced into the reactor. Sorption is carried out for 15 minutes The degree of extraction of osmium, calculated as described in example 1, is 100%.
Data on the results of the extraction of osmium at other values of the acidity of the medium, the nature of the acid, the time and form of existence of osmium are given in the table.
Thus, in comparison with the prototype, the proposed method allows more efficient, with a degree of extraction of 100% versus 45-60%, for the prototype to extract trace amounts of osmium in 10-15 minutes, regardless of the form of existence of osmium in solution and the degree of its oxidation.
