Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to the field of processing secondary sources of silver and can be used to produce pure silver.
Known methods for the recovery of silver from spent fixing solution, including the deposition of silver sulfide [1,2] or a metal reduced by zinc or sodium dithionite ("hydrosulfite" Na 2 S 2 O 4 ) [1] However, recovery methods are unsuitable for recovering silver from bleaching -fixing solutions.
Fe(III). In addition to the thiosulfate ion, the bleaching-fixing solutions contain a complex of iron (III) with EDTA Na [Fe (edta)], which is an oxidizing agent of silver, in amounts of 30-60 g / l [3] Therefore, when zinc or dithionite are added, silver is difficult to compete with reactions involving Fe (III).
The closest to the proposed invention in technical essence and the achieved results is a method comprising the deposition of silver sulfide [2] The mentioned method involves the use of excess precipitator of sodium sulfide for the complete extraction of silver, however, the optimal amount of precipitant is not determined. For bleaching-fixing solutions, this approach is unacceptable, since in addition to silver sulfide, iron (III) sulfide will precipitate, increasing the cost of cleaning silver sulfide. Unreasonably high consumption of precipitant also leads to a rise in the cost of the process. In addition, the method [2] provides for the separation of the precipitate from the solution, a simple sedimentation, which begins immediately after the addition of precipitant. Such settling for almost complete separation of the precipitate requires several tens of hours. With prolonged contact of silver sulfide with a bleaching-fixing solution, a significant part of silver may be lost due to the gradual oxidation of sulfide by the iron complex.
The aim of the invention is to search for the deposition of silver sulfide from a bleaching-fixing solution, so that this mode provides complete extraction of silver with minimal coprecipitation of iron. In addition, the aim of the invention is to develop a method for cleaning the precipitate from iron impurities, provided that there is no loss of silver.
This goal is achieved in that the precipitation of silver sulfide, according to the invention, is carried out from solutions containing 40-50 g / l of ethylene diamine tetraacetate of iron (III) sodium, by adding sodium sulfide in quantities of 0.948-4.54 g / l with vigorous stirring of the solution in for at least 10 minutes, followed by separation of the precipitate from the solution by filtration and washing the precipitate with water, 20% sulfuric acid and repeated water.
The invention and its distinguishing features are the addition of the optimal amount of sulfide necessary for the complete precipitation of silver, the rapid separation of the precipitate from the solution and the washing of the precipitate with dilute acid to remove iron sulfide.
To determine the optimum amount of sulfide, the silver content in the initial solution must be known. However, there is no need to constantly carry out analytical determinations if the initial solution is completely exhausted. Since proprietary recipes for bleaching and fixing solutions are accompanied by an indication of the usage standards (usually 1 m 2 of color photo paper per 1 l, [4]), and the silver content in the emulsion of photo paper is 1.7-1.8 g / m 2 , and silver is completely passes into the solution, the silver content in the fully worked out bleaching-fixing solution is 1.7-1.8 g / l.
Theoretically, to completely precipitate silver from such a solution, it is sufficient to add 0.65 g / l sodium sulfide. But the complex of iron with EDTA, being destroyed at the same time, gives a precipitate of Fe 2 S 3 , and the reactions of subsequent oxidation, decomposition and hydrolysis of iron sulfide do not affect the quantitative aspect of the issue. Since the solubility product of silver sulfide (10 -49 ) is several tens of orders of magnitude smaller than for Fe 2 S 3 , a heterogeneous ion exchange reaction proceeds, during which silver sulfide precipitates and Fe 2 S 3 dissolves. Upon reaching equilibrium, the precipitate Ag 2 S practically does not contain Fe 2 S 3 , if the amount of precipitant corresponded to the silver content.
Ag2S.However, the practical behavior of the system under consideration requires experimental verification. It should be noted that the rapid achievement of equilibrium contributes to the intensive mixing of the solution during deposition. Since the sodium sulfide solution is perishable, its titer is set immediately before the experiment. Cleaning the silver sulfide precipitate from iron compounds should be carried out with dilute acids. The use of HCl for this is undesirable, since iron (III) chloride in the hydrochloric acid medium causes oxidation of Ag 2 S.
It should be noted that while for a bleaching-fixing solution, the amount of precipitated silver in the prelimit region is an order of magnitude less than calculated, then for a fixing solution (not containing an oxidizing agent, Table 2), such a discrepancy is not observed. The limiting region, in which the amount of silver recovered no longer depends on the amount of precipitant, in all cases begins with the desired optimal concentration of added sulfide.
Промывать осадок для растворения соединений железа следует 20% серной кислотой, так как азотная кислота, даже будучи разбавленной, вызывает заметное окисление и растворение Ag2S (табл.1).The precipitate should be washed to dissolve the iron compounds with 20% sulfuric acid, since nitric acid, even when diluted, causes a noticeable oxidation and dissolution of Ag 2 S (Table 1).
The declared concentrations of substances and precipitant are explained as follows. The content of the Fe (III) complex with EDTA is determined only by the recipe composition of the used sample solutions. The optimal amounts of precipitant -Na 2 S- were determined experimentally by the beginning of the limiting region, that is, as the minimum mass of sodium sulfide, causing complete precipitation of silver, referred to the sample volume of the solution. Silver concentrations in the initial solutions were determined analytically before experiments.
AgNO3.The method is as follows. A preset amount of sodium sulfide in the form of a concentrated solution with vigorous stirring is added to the bleaching-fixing solution (the sample was placed in a conical flask). After 10 minutes of mixing, coagulation of silver sulfide occurs, and the latter is easily filtered. In the experiments performed, a centrifuge was used to separate it from the solution, including during washes. To work with large quantities of sludge, vacuum filtration is best. The precipitate was washed with water, 20% H 2 SO 4 to remove iron and again with water. Silver in the precipitate was determined by rhodanometry (Folhard). To do this, silver sulfide was oxidized with 60% HNO 3 during boiling, then water was added to dissolve the silver sulfite and was titrated with a solution of NH 4 SCN with an indicator of Fe (NO 3 ) 3 . The accuracy of silver determination under these conditions was confirmed by checking with 0.1 n. AgNO 3 .
Example 1. The investigated bleaching-fixing solution contains 0.151 g / l of silver, table. 1. The difference from the above method consists in washing the precipitate with 15% HNO 3 instead of a solution of sulfuric acid. A noticeable leaching of silver from the precipitate was detected.
Example 2. In accordance with the specified method, the optimal amount of precipitant was established for the de-silvering of solutions with silver content of 0.097, 0.151 and 1.008 g / l. In the experiment with the addition of 50 mg of sulfide to the richest silver solution in the sulfuric acid extract, 21.4 mg of iron was found, which indicates a significant excess of precipitant, sufficient to completely de-silver the most rich solutions (1.8 g / l).
Thus, taking into account the experimental error, it was found that the addition of 4.54 g / l sodium sulfide is sufficient for the complete extraction of silver from any initial solution with a silver concentration not exceeding the norm. The proposed method involves a small cost of reagents and time. Silver sulfide can be converted into pure metal by any known method, for example, according to [2]. Since the bleaching-fixing solution is widely used for processing color photo papers, the proposed method makes it possible to easily obtain additional very substantial amounts of valuable metal.
