Abstract
Description
The invention relates to metallurgy, in particular for the production of rare earth metals (REM).
[1]. A known mixture for producing rare earth metals, containing rare earth metal chlorides and a reducing agent is lithium [1].
The disadvantages of the charge are the duration of the process of obtaining metals, the high cost of metallic lithium, the receipt of metals in the form of a sponge.
[2]. A known mixture for producing ingots of rare earth metals, containing their chlorides and a reducing agent is calcium [2].
The disadvantages of the mixture are high hygroscopicity and a tendency to hydrolysis of rare-earth metal chlorides, the need to use expensive tantalum crucibles for melting, which increases the cost of smelting metals.
[3]. Closest to the proposed is a mixture for the production of rare earth metals containing rare earth metal fluoride and a reducing agent is calcium [3].
[3]. The disadvantages of the charge are the use of expensive rare earth fluorides, high energy consumption to achieve overheating of the melt during melting, in order to reduce the viscosity of the slag and good separation of metal and slag; the need to use expensive disposable tantalum crucibles [3].
800oC.The essence of the claimed invention lies in the fact that the mixture additionally contains rare earth chloride in the following ingredients, wt.%:
Rare earth metal fluoride - 11.2-24.34
Rare earth metal chloride - 51.62-65.80
Metallic calcium - 23.00-24.05
In contrast to the prototype, the additional introduction of rare earth chloride to the composition of the reaction mixture within the claimed limits allows to obtain rare earth metal ingots, and the slag after the reduction smelting has a lower melting point. The melting point of the slag, consisting of fluoride and calcium chloride, in the present method is not more than 800 o C.
1415oC.According to the prototype, the melting point of the slag - calcium fluoride - is 1415 o C.
The introduction of rare earth metal chloride into the charge of less than 51.62 wt.% Leads to an increase in the melting temperature of the slag, to the need for overheating of the melting products, poor separation of metal and slag, and a decrease in the yield of metals in the ingot.
The introduction of rare earth metal chlorides into the charge of more than 65.80 wt.% Leads to a decrease in the thermal effect of the reaction, to the formation of a low-melting eutectic and to dissolution of the lining of the reaction beaker in contact with liquid slag, for example, with a lining of calcium fluoride.
Thus, the claimed composition of the charge differs significantly from the prototype, is unknown from world practice and allows you to reduce the cost and simplify the hardware design, increase the performance of the recovery process (smelting scale), reduce energy consumption, which confirms the high inventive step of the claimed technical solution.
Example. Recovery smelting with the claimed composition of the charge is carried out in steel sealed retorts and steel cups lined with calcium fluoride on an REM ingot of 1000 g.
The components of the mixture are prepared as follows: an aqueous pulp of rare earth carbonates is treated with hydrofluoric acid with a lack of fluorine ion from stoichiometry. Carbonates are taken in excess within the claimed limits. The pulp is filtered, ammonium chloride with an excess of stoichiometry of 10 wt.% Is added to a wet cake containing REM fluorides and REM carbonates, and the mixture is calcined in an oven at a temperature of at least 500 o C for 2 hours. During calcination, dehydration of fluoride crystalline hydrates REM and the formation of REM chlorides to produce a mixture of fluorides and chlorides less hygroscopic than REM chlorides.
The mixture of anhydrous salts of rare-earth metals obtained by the above method is thoroughly mixed with chips or grains of calcium metal and loaded into a steel reaction beaker lined with calcium fluoride. The glass is placed in a steel retort, the latter is sealed, vacuumized, filled with argon and placed in a furnace, followed by heating to a temperature of 600 o C, holding at this temperature for 0.5 h, with a further increase in temperature in the furnace to the melting point of rare-earth metals.
630oC.The temperature of the onset of the reduction reaction is 630 o C.
After cooling to room temperature, the metal together with the slag and lining is removed from the glass. The ingot is separated from the slag, the slag is fed for further processing, the lining is returned to lining the glass of the subsequent reduction smelting.
90%. With the optimal composition of the charge: REM fluoride 19.55 wt.%, REM chloride 56.83 wt.%, Calcium 23.62 wt.%, The ingot yield was 90%.
An increase in the proportion of REM chlorides in the charge of more than 65.8 wt.% Led to the formation of a low-melting eutectic with lining of the retort with calcium fluoride and interaction with a steel reaction beaker.
A decrease in the proportion of chlorides in the charge of less than 51.62 wt.% Led to poor separation of metal and slag and a decrease in the yield of metal in the ingot - less than 80 wt.%.
Thus, the introduction of rare-earth metal chlorides into the charge allows reducing smelting without the use of expensive disposable tantalum crucibles, reducing energy costs and more.
